Who built this luxury-car concept, shown at the Beijing the Auto Show? It’s not a brand that is well-known in America, but that’s not the only reason you might be left guessing…
That’s right, it’s a Citroen. Inspired by the success of German brands in China’s luxury segment (and possibly problems with its taller offerings), this Metropolis Concept was designed in Shanghai as a vision for a French entry in that burgeoning market segment. It also seems more than a little inspired by Jaguar’s stunning new XJ, just as its sister brand’s recent Five By Peugeot Concept seemed to take some cues from Jaguar’s XF. Could Ian Callum be in danger of being wooed away by the French?

This is great. Why can’t auto companies build cars like this instead of the crap we usually see on the dealer’s lots?
Is it really that more expensive to shape sheet metal so it looks good?
+1. I think it’s beautiful. Looks like something Cadillac should slap a V16 into.
Why can’t auto companies build cars like this instead of the crap we usually see on the dealer’s lots?
Because they have to contend with things like “visibility”, “aerodynamics” and “passenger space” if they expect to sell more than a handful of cars to dilettantes.
dilettantes? Somedays you really outdo yourself, Psar…
:)
You think what we get now in US is crap?! Have you forgotten the ’80s when ALL the rotten French and Italian brands were driven away by poor quality (leaving VW as US euro-trash champion by default)?
(And we’ve had a new Citroen CX, which was awesome — but still crap…)
You know what’s bad? My sentence structure on that last post. Erf.
psarhjinian:
Dont forget.. U.S consumers (me excluded) arent content to drive ANYTHING without awd, average curb weight of 4500lbs, room for 6 people.
Now lift it up about 6″ and ya got plenty of takers..
This is decent from the outset..
But it screams Aston Martin RAPIDE, Panamera, 7iL, Sclass competition.
What’s wrong? The wheels are backwards.
Whatcha bet the wheels are correct on the other side of the car?
Would make a great 4-door Camaro
Wow.. now that is pillbox visability! Makes the Camaro look like E21 3-Series. When will this trend end?
We are going to have to wait until the guys who grew up wanting to design Hot Wheels have been purged from the industry.
Being able to see the road is greatly overrated.
(sarcasm) Visibility? For what? Nobody’s looking outside anymore. Everybody’s texting.
My room mate in college drove a Neon with spirally-twisty wheels- and they made that car look like crap, too. Unlike a Neon, this is a beautiful car- but difficult to take seriously with those rims.
Citreon should re-invent and modernize the 2CV. Like BMW did with the Mini.
Twotone
twotone: I think Citroen is contemplating that.

front end looks dodge viper, rear end looks like bmw front end.
actually, new bmw front end looks like my rear end.
@twotone – Not a fan of the 2cv, but a modern DS or SM, that would be sweet.
Can someone please restore this car to the coupe proportions that it deserves?
i guess the market for 2 ton, 6 meter long cars is limited
Looks to me like a four door Viper done up Italian style.
Who built this luxury-car concept? Choose one:
(a) an obscure race of headless people;
(b) 14-yr-old boys who sketch cars while in English Lit;
(c) the American Chiropractic Institute;
(d) PhotoShop.
This is a beautiful design, I hope Citroen will come up with a successful business plan for it. Yes, China can help turn this in a real production car.
The DS is one of my all time favorites. The CX was a pretty good replacement as an evolving design. I’m glad they didn’t play the retro theme here. I can tell this was a very talented design team.
What’s wrong with this picture? Why it’s a Citroen. A poorly built car that’s ugly. But sadly, with Fiat buying into the US market, it’s inevitable that other low quality manufacturers will be making a come back.
Although, I do admit that this car isn’t retardedly ugly like Citroen’s were in the 50/60’s.
And the reason why cars have been losing glass area is so the manufacturer can sell you the $2000 radar/camera system option.
I think you need to tick the box next to “glasses”.
One clue gave it away. I guessed correctly, just.
When I saw the Panamera-aping front fender and the stolen Estoque rear quarters, I very nearly guessed “some unpronouncable Chinese company”. But when I looked closely I saw the concave rear window and I knew. There is only one company still using that design detail – Citroen.
GIANT O.T. WARNING! What the H*ll happened to the B&B? It’s more like a hate-forum for foreign brands since Robert left. No wonder I post once a year anymore.
