Just what every Mother would want: a color-coordinated magenta Miata to go along with her purple irises and yellow tulips.

This is neither the time or the color of car to do a full Curbside Classic. But I can tell you this much (unless I’ve lost my head); this wasn’t a stock color. In fact, the earliest Miata came in only three difficult choices: red, white or blue.

I highly doubt it is original, though it wouldn’t surprise if it was done back in the mid-nineties when Skittles colors were becoming popular on smaller cars.

Yeah probably not original but a green Miata with a tan leather interior and wood trim still fills me with (pardon the expression) “car lust.”

Hopefully your car lust is reserved for proper “British Racing Green” and not just any four-wheeled hussy that shows up wearing a shade of shamrock.

Spent a weekend in Phoenix last month, driving around in a friend’s ’99 5-speed Nardi edition, dark green (not BRG) with an… ugh… black interior.

I’m a big guy, but I was surprised by how comfortable I was in the Miata — maybe not a good cross-country car, but definitely servicable for around town and even a daytrip down to Tucson!

I’m hooked. I definitely see owning one of these as a weekend car in the near future, parked next to my 6.

This is the car my mother has wanted for years, and yes, I think she’d pick that exact colour and likely for the same reason.

Definitely not an original color, although there was a similar color called Raspberry Metallic that Mazda put on one car as an experiment in 1990. No one seems to know what happened to that car. This is a repaint which I must make a point of NOT showing my girlfriend. If the wheels are original the car is a 1994-97 model.

Also, there were four colors available on the first Miatas – Classic Red, Crystal White, Mariner Blue, and Silverstone.

Mine’s navy blue with tan leather, and I can’t say I approve of this Easter Egg monstrosity…um, a ‘regular’ Miata’s not girlie enough for you? Really? You gotta dip it in ‘My Pretty Pony’ purple to up the chick factor??! Ugh!

You can do that crap to other cars…I’ve seen 1st gen Neon Coupes in similar shades, or maybe do that to a Honda del Sol or even an older Mitsubishi Eclipse, but for the love of God, this is blasphemy on a Miata. FAIL!

    Repaint that thing, woman!

Another clue this is a ’94-’97 car: the raised silver Mazda logo on the nose. The 1.6-liter ’90-’93s didn’t have this.

Those wheels are coveted by autocrossers because they’re 14×6 (as opposed to the 14×5.5 of the more common alloys) and light as a feather.

Au contraire Flatout! My 1993 Miata with the “B” package has the chrome badge on the, uh, grille. It was only available with the “B” package which included limited slip differential, stereo speakers in the seats, and FM/AM cassette stereo. It might have included A/C and power steering, but I don’t feel like digging out the window sticker for confirmation.

Prior car was a ’96 M-Edition, dark bluish-purple/tan, miss it dearly.

It’s been a decade since dark purple was available. List of factory MX-5 colors for US: http://www.miata.net/faq/production.html

Miatas are fun to drive, easy to own, and they’re far from rare. So when you do get one, you can paint it whatever color you like. Plus, they’re so darned reasonably priced, the only reason to not own one for each day of the week is because you have kids to put through college.

If you ever want to know how to pick out the fools at a car show, listen for the guys who will dismiss a Miata as a “chick car.”

You are right on that score.

I may one day again own a Miata. I liked my ’93 5-speed so much, that’s why I chose ZoomZoom for my screen name.

The Miata is a great little car, and mostly trouble-free. Change that timing belt on time and replace the convertible top around 100,000 miles, and you’re good to go.

      +1

Though my perfect 2-seater would have the body of a TR5 with the mechanics and handling of the Miata. The first-gen’s bland jellybean shape deceives general enthusiasts to write it off as chick’s car.
