Ed pitched a perfect no-hitter yesterday, with the clue to his hot new love object. And I struck out, once again: the 2002’s distinctive rear tail light trim was instantly identified by vermontwalton, a former owner. I should know better: if you’ve ever washed and waxed a car repeatedly, every detail becomes intimately familiar. So how many out there have rubbed your hands over this detail: does it feel familiar?

1990-92 Eagle Premier.
Mid to late eighties Mitsubishi van, also known as L300 in Europe and Delica in Japan.
+1.
IIRC still in production here
Never washed or waxed it, but it sure does look familiar. I’m sure I’ll facepalm when the answer is revealed.
BTW Paul, as of today I’m an Oregonian. Let me know if you’re ever headed over the pass to the dry side!
Welcome. And as I write this, it’s raining. A short summer.
It is even raining over here in the “desert”… =
By the way, I drove the R107 down, with the hard-top on. Quiet, leak free… fit as well as it did when it left Stuttgart 31 years ago. The E-type will have to wait for better weather for the transit.
1990 Lincoln Town Car, although the molding looks a little pedestrian.
I’m going with an ’84 Plymouth Reliant.
Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, early 80s, but Dan may be right.
I agree, Cutlass Ciera
1st generation Toyota mini-van? 80’s vintage?
Heck………….I got nothing…..
Gut says 80s Stanza.
I’m leaning towards this too. 87-89 I think.
Mid/late 80’s Mazda Bongo/E-Series, Ford Econovan/Spectron……
1980-82 Mercury Cougar
Mid to late eighties Mitsubishi van, also known as L300 in Europe and Delica in Japan. I posted my reply much earlier, but it’s still “awaiting moderation” so I’m going to put it up again in the hope that it appears.
I think you’re right.
That’s it! Good work, yoribe1
Of course he’s right. His first comment is out from moderation hell now.
And the shape of the turn light/door said it all. I see those things everyday here.
“Awaiting moderation”? Are you on double super secret probation? I posted something in this last night but when I looked this morning, nothing.
This could be an 86-89 Toyota Van. It looks very close to my 84, but it’s off a little. I’m not as good on the second half of the generation (mild redesign). If it is (which it probably isn’t), then there’s been some repainting. the headlight surrounds weren’t usually body colored (if memory serves) and the molding should be below that “indent line” (or character line).
I think majo8 is right.
Early 90’s Lincoln Town Car, or maybe a Mercury Grand Marquis
The bumper cut line looks like that of a small pickup with a corner cap. I’ll say late 80’s Mazda B2000, even though I can’t find any pictures with a similar tail light. The color looks right for a Mazda B Series too.
After much thought, I’m going with Mitsubishi Van, 87-89 vintage. If I’m right I’ll talk about the one that my aunt and uncle had and drove for a number of years…
Last night I posted mid-80’s Toyota Van Wagon but the post is now not here. Weird.
I’m going with the crowd on this one. This looks like a 1987 to 1990 Mitsubishi Van.
Initially, I thought it was a 1987 to 1990 Nissan Van, but the black trim running along the door is not a match. Besides, as a result of Nissan’s “scrap ’em all” recall I doubt there are more than a handful of Nissan Van’s left in North America.
Yeah, I posted last night too and nothing showed up. For the last week or so I’ve been having some problems with the comments section when using Safari, so if you guys are also using that browser, that might be the issue. Or maybe I’m just lucky and have some sui generis problem…
Incidentally, I intended to post either ’80s Mitsubishi van or the ’80s Toyota MasterAce van. But the rub rail trim makes me agree it’s the Mitsu.
Its either a Chevy Nova (the NUMMI one) or the aforementioned Mitsu Van.
Gut feeling say’s its the NUMMI Nova.
The van that is hidden behind the tree in your “Suddenly It’s 1990” piece?
