Egg crates! The most ubiquitous pattern in…egg storage devices and grilles. Now which year and model car used this particular variation of the theme? Figuring that should keep you out of trouble for a few hours, maybe. Maybe not. The Toyota FJ hubcap kept at least one of our readers involved for some time. At 8:44 PM, the duke got real close, with his Toyota Toyopet guess. Even though I shot that down, the duke did not give up, and at 12:46 PM, he got it! Congratulations; persistence does pay off, sometimes.

1975 full-size Oldsmobile?
I was thinking a ’78-’79 Cutlass Calais, the one with the Seville-like bustle back. I’m guessing another GM Deadly Sin editorial about styling dilution is in the offing.
Slight correction. Cutlass Salon, not the Calais. I got my submodels mixed up.
Definitely Box. And of those, Olds, although it’s likely the same grill on several of them.
ford fairmont?
1972 Mercury Marquis?
Aw, what the heck…1974 Ford Gran Torino.
1985 Olds Cutlass
1969 Ford LTD?
They don’t call me Loser for nothing.
It looks like a 1979 Caprice Classic.
80-83 Buick Skylark.
Couldn’t tell you about cars, but I’ve got a ’70s-era air conditioner that looks just like that.
1985 Lincoln Towncar
OK, I’ll toss my vote into the mix. ’80’s Ford F-150
Looks like an early 70s buick riveria to me.
My first thought was “Oldsmobile”, especially after seeing that divide in between the eggcrate. Very early 1980s, although it could be any intermediate or full-sizer.
GM X-car. Chevy Citation perhaps?
This does seem to be an exercise in perseverance. Seemed most likely from the 1970s so I flipped through a picture book for that decade. The only vague fit struck me as the 1977 Dodge Diplomat. This is due to the slightly thrust forward grille and the vertical separators between the becrated rectangles. That’s probably not it (egg crates look too square and the vertical bars too chromed) but duties call.
Damn, someone beat me to it. I think it’s a 1979 Chevy Caprice. I used to own one.
I’m second guessing here, just in case it’s not a ’79 Caprice…1974 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight or 1974 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser (which had the Ninety-Eight’s grille).
Hold on TTAC- you can’t kid a kidder. That isn’t a car. It is obviously one of the many “capsule hotels” in Tokyo.
1978 Olds Regency or Delta 88
Doc Brown’s DeLorean?
1970 Ford F-250
Well… Since it’s Panther Appreciation week (although Paul doesn’t appreciate the Panthers.) How bout a 1979 Mercury Grand Marquis?
Not quite….I’m guessing a 1983-87 Ford Crown Victoria in that same spirit.
1979 Ford LTD.
They make really smoky one-wheel burnouts when subjected to repeated reverse-neutral drops. Also, the transmissions are very weak and are not designed for repeated reverse-neutral drops.
I have an old friend who learned this bit of trivia the hard way.
oops- 1981-1982 Ford LTD
1980 Ford LTD Crown Vic. At first I thought it was a full-size Olds, but it’s Panther appreciation week.
Thats got to be from my old 73 Monte Carlo with the Landau roof and vinly interior and no a/c/
What a hot car. Doors, huge and long that could ding anything within yards of it when opened. I still loved that crate it just looked super cool in double blue.
I was thinking Crown Vic, but for some reason I’m wondering if this isn’t a ’77 -’79 Plymouth Volare.
It looks like the 1988 Cadillac DeVille grill. Right on the center.
