At $103,100, the just-announced Porsche 911 Carrera GTS costs $12,600 more than a Carrera S. With only 23 horsepower more than the S, the GTS’s premium works out to about $548 per horsepower. Or $6,300 per letter on the badge. Sure, you get a rear-drive version of the Carrera 4 body, an option that’s only been made recently available on the über-priced 911 Sport Classic, but other than that (and a claim to the title of fastest Carrera-badged 911 ever built), the GTS doesn’t appear to bring all that much to the table. And though the lightened, more powerful GT3 costs $25k more than the Carrera S, its extra power brings the per-horsepower premium to a more value-oriented $503. On the other hand, a Corvette ZR1 offers 200 hp more than even the GT3 for less money. As has always been the case, if dollars per horsepower is your game, you’ve still got to go to Detroit.

How does that price differential look after three years and 30k miles? I’m a patient guy and willing to wait for someone else to take the hit.

Or go to Bowling Green, Kentucky, as the case may be.

There’s also the WRX/Evo + some cheap mods.

I would disagree in saying that providing top horsepower is a priority for Porsche with the new GTS. You have to approach it from Porsche’s perspective of trying to appeal to the customer. Somewhere out there is a wealthy segment of buyers for which the regular Carrera S isn’t distinctive enough, but find the idea of driving a GT3 a pain (or they can’t drive stick). Bam! The GTS has over 400 horsepower, optional PDK, and a curvaceous body. Sold!
Other than being obviously contrived, I agree with Porsche on this one. The 911 thrives by finding little niches in the high-end sports car market and Porsche is likely just generating some 911 publicity as the 997 is on its way out the door.

How many versions of the 911 are for sale now?  I mean, wow.  Was this always the case or is this a new phenomenon?

What is this car supposed to be? It has big wheels, painted brakes, 23 more horsepower than a regular carrera s, but it doesn’t have a spoiler, but does have a rear window wiper(not a performance option).  what is the difference between a regular carrera body and a carrera 4 body?
is this car more sporty or not so sporty but more sporty than a carreras, or is it just a configuration made for selling a badge.

stationwagon; it’s not a performance option but sure is an option as Porsche makes you pay even for the floor mats (there are a few options there as well) but all are of the non unintended acceleration type.

Porsche has, for many years, provided significant interior customization in addition to low run numbers special editions like this. If the money is there, they grab it. Leather covered thises and thats, paint to sample, leather color to sample, various wood and CF bits and pieces. You could buy a whole ‘vette for the amount of money you can spend on specialty items that don’t really change the car functionally. I assume they get enough takers to make it worthwhile.

Learn to drive, then buy an appropriate vehicle is my mantra. That Porsche might as well be a Camry, if I don’t know much about driving. Well that is one side of the story anyhow.

This is another Mustang spec edition. Change this and that without fundemental changes, jack up the price for exclusivity and make only a few of them. Sales are great, rinse and repeat. Unless you’re willing to do some radical changes, there’s not a lot you can do to stimulate sales on the basic bodystyle.

BTW, I still want one. I’d have to win a lottery, of course. *sigh*

I think this is the ultimate carrera. on every blog since yesterday everyone is comapring it with the GT3, but this is very different. it’s mainly very similar but the GT3 is just so much of a eye magnet, this is some sort of sleeper 911…I want… I like, i can dream no?
