When Renault, Nissan and Daimler all tied up together many people thought this was just a symbolic gesture. The venture may help each other out in designs and joint ventures, but personally, I didn’t see anything of real substance happening from it. Well, it seems that Nissan and Daimler are taking this cross holding seriously. Very seriously.

Automotive News reports that Nissan’s luxury brand, Infiniti, is working on a new entry level car just below the G37. However, it’s not just Nissan/Infiniti working on this project. Nissan executive vice president, Colin Dodge, told Automotive news that the new car will be placed on a Daimler platform and use a Daimler engine. Infiniti’s U.S sales and marketing head, Ben Poore, seems to want this project to go ahead. “Our competitors have products in what you call the (Mercedes-Benz) sub-C class or (BMW) sub-3 series,” said Mr Poore, clearly referring to the Mercedes-Benz B & A classes and the BMW 1-series, “There’s a big market there and that segment is going to grow.” It seems like this partnership may be a beautiful one. Until Infiniti and Mercedes-Benz start attacking each other in the market.
