Volkswagen’s budget knows no bounds lately. With sales on a roll and VW picking up Porsche for a song, they decided to cast off their normal “nobody” booth babes for Heidi Klum to flog the lightly redesigned EOS convertible. This seems like an odd choice to me since the EOS has long been known as the hairdresser’s convertible, so bringing in a german model and fashionista isn’t really butching up the place. Still, the new EOS will continue to thrill the ladies with the same 2.0T engine now mated to a DSG gearbox. For those out there that can’t figure out how to park in normal perpendicular parking spots, the new EOS will do that for you. How’s that for butch?

    I gotta say – it’s a hardtop convertible with a sunroof – it’s an engineering marvel!

I actually like the Eos, but I have a real soft spot for chick cars.**  The previous one was a very comfortable, very capable car, though a bit expensive.  Pity the backseat is cramped.

I never did understand VW calling this the EOS. EOS is a well know Canon SLR camera brand which has been around muuuuuuch longer than this Vee Dub and camera’s are the first thing I think of whenever I see one of these on the road.

What’s a “chick’s car”? Maybe the VW Beetle with the flower holder and pink Ford Mustangs, but what’s that supposed to mean? I’ll buy whatever car I want that fits my needs regardless of what someone writes or says. Now, that being said, the EOS isn’t a car a single guy might buy alone, but a husband & wife? You betcha! We checked out one of these last year at the local auto show and loved it. If we could afford it, it would be the car that fit our needs/desires. Personally, I lean toward the Camaro convertible, but will reserve judgment until I can evaluate one in person.

The front end looks very clean and dignified, not busy like so many others. Automatic parking? Nah – I’ll park myself. Unnecessary technology for anything. I feel that if one cannot park one’s own car, they shouldn’t be driving in the first place!

What’s wrong with Volkswagen these days? I mean, they’re hardly running out of money, but despite this, rather than bringing new models to the market they present a whole range of facelifted versions of cars that have been on the market for several years and then call them “new” (MK7 Passat, anyone? Or the MK6 Golf?). Don’t they think anyone will notice? The Touran has even been facelifted twice.

Greatly looking forward to the new Golf convertible.  The EOS was an improper replacement.

Could the demographics of the show staff be any further away from the targeted group?

    Anybody?  Anybody?  Bueller?
