You’re driving down the road at a spirited tempo when you see a big, black, tuned Taurus. No biggie, right?
Wrong… at least, as long as Ford’s SEMA-bound Interceptor Stealth Concept helps police departments get past the car’s wrong-wheel-drive problem. And between its insanely stealthy looks, and its lack of previous cop-duty baggage, Interceptor Stealths will be hell to spot on enthusiastic drives. Here’s hoping they end up on detective duty rather than traffic patrols…

Absolutely nothing is wrong with that picture. If I were a Ford dealer I would be prepared for many “conversion” inquiries about that grill.
DEAD OR ALIVE YOU ARE COMING WITH ME…
Seriously, this isn’t fair because as soon as I see someone in something like this – I RACE EM…and my SRT8 will MURDER a SHO.
A better question is why taxpayer dollars are putting rimz on police cars. They don’t deserve to have stuff like this. I say make all the cops have Chevy Volts.
That’s what a Taurus ought to look like.
Needs some 18″ steelies with chrome trim rings. That way you can look cool and not bend a rim while chasing bad guys.
+1
No way those painted-on tires will ever see police duty. But even with cop wheels… damn…. this is a looker.
Yeah, I don’t see village taxpayers popping for 20s and 8-pot Brembos on the local constable’s car. Not in this economy. Hopefully not in any.
PS, you can’t outrun a radio.
I dunno, a few GM-dependent municipalities bought Fail-Wheel-Drive V8 Impalas for chiefs and sheriffs, I can see some doing this for detectives and the like.
I still cannot get over the difference between the old “melted in the sun” Taurus of yester-year and the new one. This thing looks great.
Maybe it’s because it’s a cop car, but I want one, preferably Ecoboosted.
The main question is: can it jump over an open bascule bridge?
+1. Only if it’s fitted with a cop motor, cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, and can run on regular gas.
Congrats to Ford for copying the front clip of the Holden Commodore VE.
Even if the cops don’t buy it –although RoboCop is drooling right now– this should be the next SHO.
Absolutely!!! THAT’S what an SHO should look like.
It would be even more stealthy if it didn’t have illegal tint (for Illinois anyway; makes the state cars/trucks easy to spot).
It’s not sitting in my driveway.
I can tell you what’s wrong with the picture: the nasty gap between the front bumper and the hood.
There’s nothing stealthy about that car, if you’re a Bad Guy.
Congrats to Ford for copying the front clip of the Holden Commodore VE.
The what? Lexus IS gen 1 maybe….or just another generic front end design….
Hmmmmmmmm what’s the Bandit gonna drive now? (Gonna have to up that prize money if he’s gonna afford a CPO G8 GXP.)
The answer to the Classic Curbside clue of the building seen behind the vehicle:
It is the 1913 Michigan Central Terminal at Vernor Hwy. and Michigan Ave. in the Corktown neighborhood in Detroit. (A building on the same scale of beautiful as New York Central Terminal in NY NY, but, sadly, now a gutted, open-windowed, vandalized, graffiti-laden (and with apologies to Whitman) unwaked somnambule hulking in the dusk.
(First time in a long time that I have seen some Detroit-area something used as a backdrop in an automotive PR shot.)
What was Ford thinking, using an abandoned, vandalized Detroit landmark as a backdrop? Is there something subliminal going on?
I saw a similar Taurus double parked in front of Boston’s South Station last week. I didn’t notice with wheels (I am sure they weren’t 24″…), but rather the dark tint, lack of badging and the lights mounted behind the grill and at the top of the windshield. I thought it looked good, but was taken aback by how stealthy it was…
It looks good.
However, I’m more interested in the reworked exhaust on this car- which is hopefully coupled with about a 80% reduction in sound deadening material.
TOO! It is too large, too heavy, too wide. FWD can’t be a good thing, especially on a heavy weight.
Come on out and play tag on the country roads….
Now to be fair shut off the radio and Lets play tag !
Do want.
Woah, is that a gun/clip storage where the passenger airbag used to be?
