We’ve already seen BMW’s new smooth-and-sleek Six Series as a droptop, but is it possible that the design will gain back some of its Bangle-ian spizzarkle as a coupe? Don’t hold your breath. The new design has more old-world grace than the previous model, but as a result it looks like it’s trying a bit too hard to be a Jag or Maserati. Sure, both of those brands offer some of the most elegant touring options on the market, but isn’t BMW supposed to be just a little farther ahead of the curve than its “Olde Worlde” competition? Shouldn’t BMWs be just a little bit more architectural and a lot more coldly technical-looking? Still not sure? Hit the jump for some endless B-Roll and a gallery.

Shouldn’t you just assume what BMW is supposed to be? Haven’t they been ahead of the curb ever since the E60? Doesn’t it look just absolutely fab in that red and continues to own the fuck out of no Fiat crap Maserati GT?

Bangle styling needs to be exorcised like ex-friends of Stalin.

It’s certainly a more conservative approach than the last one but maybe the real change is that BMW’s journey from making sports sedans and coupes to making luxo barges is complete. If this new 6 will be anything like the new 5 series I drove last week then there is not much to get excited about beyond the visuals.

So you want Bangle styling back?  Nah, can’t be.  Must have misread that.  Right?

Think it looks good. Also liked the previous model, especially after the facelift. The front could have been a bit less bland maybe. But I think the Grandcoupe concept or whatever it’s called (The BMW ‘CLS’) will work very well with this more understated design. Then again maybe that’s an extra reason why they could have made the coupe/cabrio stand out a little bit more.

Not bad, but I’d still take the Maserati Grantourismo.

This new 6 leads me to believe that good examples of E63 M6 will begin holding value very well in 5+ years. Especially the 6 speeds. We’ll look back at that as a special car in 2021.
