At least back in the 50s and 60s there never was a car called a “Gullwing”. To Mercedes-Benz it was always called a “300sl”. It was produced as a coupe from inception until ’57, then as a convertible until the end of the run in the early 60s.

“Gullwing Mercedes” was just a name people used to describe it.

These SLS cars are lumpy looking tractors. If they’re selling enough ‘gullwings’ to be inspired to make the roadster, then it’s just more proof that money and good taste aren’t necessarily related.

    here’s the thing…

its very much got Dodge Viper DNA

it has the F1 safety car aura

it’s also cheap for what it is… it seems priced at Gallardo/Ferrari 458 levels but with more capacity

it’s almost guaranteed to be a more reliable

i want to dislike but the gullwing has a lot of hooks

I was driving next to one of these the other day on Long Island. Red one, had an old StingRay aura about it. He got in front of me and stomped on it when the light turned. I got a face full of oil smoke and smell. Hey dude in the red one on Nicholls Road — I don’t think it’s supposed to be burning oil just yet!
