Japanese automakers are gearing up in earnest to make up for production lost after the March 11 tsunami. Across the island nation, there are new signs of resurgence. They read “we hire” (or Japanese words to that effect.) Automakers are hiring thousands of contract workers that had been let go after the financial crisis.
According to The Nikkei [sub]
- Toyota announced Tuesday that it will hire up to 4,000 workers at 12 domestic plants
- Mitsubishi Motors will expand its manufacturing staff by 500
- Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp. will boost the number of contract workers to 170
- Hino will add 50 contract workers, bringing its total to 2,000 by July
- Isuzu will expand its contract work force from slightly more than 300 to slightly over 500.

What car is that in the picture, a Yaris wagon? If so, I wish that was sold in the USA…
It would be deemed under-powered by most people.
