With a new generation of BMW 3-Series on the way, you expect to see plenty of photos of it testing on the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife. What you don’t expect to see: photos of it being towed through the “Green Hell.” According to Auto Motor und Sport, this prototype’s breakdown on the ‘ring is “unusual at this stage of development,” but the German publication notes that the defect that caused it is unknown. They simply write that, in the midst of a test drive, the next-gen Dreier “ran out of breath.” Hopefully the boys at BMW will be able to suss out the problem before the new Dreier launches in Europe next year… nobody likes to see a car like the 3-Series making its way through the Nürburgring on a trailer.

That’s the first time I’ve seen an X5 towing anything…though I’m sure it’s more common in Europe (and the caravan-crazy UK)
How long before Audi posts this picture on a billboard in LA?
I give it a week. They have to think up a clever quip to go with it first. LOL
At first it seemed as though the tow vehicle was slightly beefier than stock on the rear end, but I guess that’s just the normal stagger of the 4.8 that I’m seeing, right?
Only one of three things possible:
1. too little of what makes it go;
2. too much of what makes it stop;
3. too little, or too much, of what makes it go left or right…
A BMW being taken to the dealer for service or repair … looks a lot more like a real world scenario than racing around the ‘Ring for most prospective owners.
So what’s the record time for a vehicle towing 3000 lbs through the ‘Ring?
It must be HPFP again.
Hey! I just saw one just two hours ago here near Breckenridge Colorado that looked almost exactly like the one on the trailer, except the one I saw was a two box 4-dr hatchback.
