If the cadence of TTAC articles will march a little softer in the coming days, then it’s because the TTAC offices on both sides of the globe are deserted. We’ve literally gone fishing.
Ed Niedermeyer is going to Detroit (yes, Detroit) to write stories with the usual bias report on something which will make the hearts of any fans of Detroit iron beat faster than a redlining Corvette. Ed will be fishing for juicy tidbits from Detroit executives.
I’m going to Chengdu (ever heard of it?) in the center of China to attend the Global Automotive Forum, where I will be fishing for answers to questions such as “The role of Chinese auto industry in the world”, or “The auto industry investment needs: Where will the money come from? Where will it go?”
Ed & I will try to file as much as possible – which will be next to nothing. In the meantime, Jack, Murilee, Sajeev, John, Alex, and the whole TTAC cast of characters will hopefully hit the keyboards to keep you informed and entertained.

FYI, the short link http://ttac.com/ isn’t working right anymore. Looks like somebody goofed the redirection.
I pointed that out a few minutes earlier as a comment on “The Case Of The Purloined Gymkhana.” Seems equally appropriate there as a comment on an article about improper name-grabbing as it does here, on an article about nobody being at home.
I didn’t read the comments on that article, but I figured it made sense for a housekeeping post. Looks like it’s fixed now.
This sounds like a perfect moment for Jack to drag out the real ribald, scummy stories. With full graphic details, please.
“I’m going to Chengdu (ever heard of it?) in the center of China”
Why yes, it is part of one of the most well known lines of English poetry:
In Xanadu* did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
“Kubla Khan” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834)

*Different transliteration of the Chinese word for Chengdu, which is apparently not nearly as romantic as Coleridge’s opium dream.
Colderage romantic? Fuggetaboutit, how about Olivia Newton-John’s Xanadu!
In Xanadu* did Newton-John
Two stately pleasure-domes display:
Where fantasies, of a hormonal teen boy, ran
To that cavern beloved by man
and to pleasure’s afterglow.

p.s. Actually, regarding ONJ, Physical was a much better vid.
@Robert Walter: “p.s. Actually, regarding ONJ, Physical was a much better vid.”
+1
I refreshed my recollection on YouTube. She was more cute than hot.
At the age I was when ONJ came on the scene, cute = hot, heck, to be honest, looking back, at that age, “not hideous” = hot..
Rush alert! Rush alert!
Go for it, as we’ll be expecting a treasure-trove of juicy stuff that only talking with insiders in the industry will reveal!
Hopefully, I’ll have time to digest at least some of the info, as work has been driving me crazy since I got back from vacation and probably will still be extremely busy for the next two weeks.
Have fun in Chengdu Bertel. It’s at the top of the list of places in China I’d like to visit. Have some dan dan noodles for me.
And say hi to Nan Nan Doodles for me!
Safe travels and hurry back!
Reading Jalopnik is like reading TMZ now, but it isn’t as funny as TMZ, and TMZ has more articles about cars than Jalpnik does.
Jalop…WHO?
Enjoy, learn, and pass what you learn on to the rest of us…
Heard of Chengdu?
Stayed there and had a great time. Even held a baby panda! Although if the Sichuan Opera is on your agenda, you may choose to skip that one…
