Hyundai may have solved the mystery of the rattle-free steering wheel adjustment with it’s new i30, but apparently there are still some details to work out with the model. Like, what grille to give it? Do you go with the standard, stripped-down look (left), or do you spring for the gilled, bottom-feeder, Mazda-reject look (right)? Decisions, decisions… [H/T: Nikola]

Both of those options options look absolutely hideous. It’s a shame they are putting a version of those faces on the Genesis Coupe.
With that many curves, less is more. Go with the stripped down look.
Finally, someone who thinks Mazda designers didn’t ruin the looks of their cars.
Left for the normal one and right for the hybrid, a la Sonata.
That’s exactly what I thought. Maybe a hybrid i30 could sell.

The right-side Mazda reject still looks better than the Mazda3 production smiley face! I really hope they come to thier senses when they introduce the Sky-activ engines.

What’s with the current vogue of Audi-esq gaping mouth-grills? It’s a poor optical illusion to try to trick the eye into thinking that the grill opening above the bumper extends int the radiator intake below… so few designs do it properly, and to my mind, only Maserati does it well. If it’s a bumper, leave it styled as a bumper, don’t try to turn it into a air intake.
……..still chuckling at your “Hannibal Lecter” Lincoln grille nickname. “Bottomfeeder” isn’t bad either for this Hyundai.
