Ever wonder what Brazilians are buying? Well, Fenabrave (Brazilian Federation of Vehicle Distributors) breaks down the market into 16 rhymeless and reasonless categories (in technical terms). Being that, nowadays, some cars really are difficult to categorize, you could say that this breakdown at least helps you see how dealers market their wares.
Fiat walks away as the winner in 4 categories. Volkswagen and Chevrolet both take 3 wins. Honda leads in 2 categories, while Ford, Hyundai, Renault and Toyota all come out on top once.
The number behind the car is the Brazilian unit sales in 2011. Full listing with pictures after the jump.

[Editor’s remark: Marcelo dumped this in my inbox with the advice that I “may want to put some pictures in to illustrate it.” Marecelo, a newly minted dad, suffered from “short time.” It was left to this editor to pick the right picture. Folks, the only thing I know about Brazilians sadly is deemed NSFW.
Picking pictures in a language one does not speak, and from a country where generations of cars can coexist in the showroom, is an engraved invitation for disaster. Most likely, half of the pictures in tyhis list are wrong.
This is where YOU come in. Right the wrongs! In the comments, please place links to pictures (do NOT post the picture itself) of the correct car (Brazilian spec.) Please peer-review. The one with the most CORRECT links wins the coveted

Am I the only one wondering what it would take to make a VW bus US legal?
tyhis list are wrong.
2nd to last paragraph…typo…
The bus is an old US bus, the Br. bus is some mishmash of Bus sheetmetal…
And since we are suspending TTAC rules….
BABABOOEY
Not really…style hasn’t changed much. Except for windows…
Now that I think of it, the new version goes with a 1.4L flex engine. And they put some black plastic in front. It is reminiscint of the styly of the Kombi diesel, which was a huge failure in Brazil.
Well done, Bertel! Just two minor mistakes. Here is my list:
Picture review:
Gol – correct
CrossFox – correct
Punto – correct
Chevrolet Classic – old picture, current style is: http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Chevrolet-Classic-Uruguay-2011.jpg
City – correct
Corolla – correct
Azera – correct
Palio Weekend – showing the Adventure version, which I think sells more than the regular one, so very correct.
Megane – correct
Fit – correct
Zafira – correct
Strada – correct, but again showing the Adventure version.
S10 – correct but did they have to use ALL dealer installed options?
Kombi – OLD picture, current style is:
http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/vw-kombi-brazil-january-2011.jpg
Fiorino – correct
EcoSport – correct
Good job on the pictures.
The Hyundai Azera, which sold really well, is the previous gen, not the one pictured, due to generous incentives.
Also, BMW’s are divided by specific models, so instead of counting 3-series sales, we see 318, 320, 325 and 335 models.
One last comment, the title does’n seem right to me… it should be the cars we CAN buy (well, sort of)
I counted 5 mistakes if we are taking into consideration the most current version of each model…
Autobraz, presta atenção!
You have some mistakes on your list…
Try again!
Ok, I admit I put in the picture of the bus just to see whether you guys pay attention … This is my favorite …
Definitely — classic design by Ben Pon!
Thnaks for making this post much more interesting!
Thanks for effort and time, but if we are trying to show latest versions there are 5 ‘wrong’ :)
Same here – that picture HAS TO BE wrong. If it’s not, I’m going junkyarding to find some pre 1967 VW VIN numbers and hen buy some rust colored tempura paint. A little practice smudging words on import documents and I’m into the black market VW van smuggling business.
I’m still waiting for the correct pictures. No get out of jail free card yet!
If even Autobraz didn’t spot them… I’m betting no one is going to get that card!
I’d rather have a Get Out Of Sobriety Free Card.
That Honda City grill would have made for a more interesting appearance than the Civic’s. Half the posters here would still come out against it, but at least it would be less dull.
So let me give it a try… must get 5 mistakes…
i’ll start with the ones autobraz identified:
Chevrolet Classic – old picture, current style is: http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Chevrolet-Classic-Uruguay-2011.jpg
Kombi – OLD picture, current style is:
http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/vw-kombi-brazil-january-2011.jpg
and the Azera sold in 2011 was probably rather:
http://www.gratisonline.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Hyundai-Azera_2011_02-620×4341.jpg?iact=hc&vpx=390&vpy=168&dur=3442&hovh=188&hovw=268&tx=161&ty=196&sig=104095446304687890753&ei=PB4lT_7TBa304QTV5cT6DA&page=1&tbnh=165&tbnw=208&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0
Then the Renault Grand Tour (picture showed the hatchback):
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll292/blogodorium/album2010/RenaultMganeGrandTour2011.jpg?iact=hc&vpx=647&vpy=350&dur=4018&hovh=177&hovw=285&tx=171&ty=134&sig=104095446304687890753&ei=mx4lT6qGOKaG4gTgy4X6DA&page=1&tbnh=135&tbnw=218&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:8,s:0
it then becomes really difficult for me. I’d say that the Fiorino picture looks pretty old but I did not spot any difference with the current one. So maybe the new face is the right one:
http://sn2.icarros.com/dbimg/imgadicionalanuncio?tipo=2&id=4172267_1
Other solution, the gol that fights with the other “entry level” is not the “novo Gol” but the old one, as in this picture:
http://www.carrosnaweb.com.br/imagensbd007%5Cgolg4102005.jpg
I’m not planning any flaming right now but you never know, in the future…
Ok,
And the answers are:
Zafira, old model. New one has new grill.
Corsa Sedan (Classic) – the one pictures is old model (new grill and back and front lights)
CrossFox- the one pictured is old model (new grill and headlights and backlights)
And Fiorino and Kombi, too.
The Megane I can’t tell from picture, but it does look like the sedan model and not SW.
So, nobody got the card!
So those are your five wrongs..
