The 2013 GMC Acadia gets a pretty mild update, with cosmetic changes playing the biggest role here. A new “center airbag”, which inflates via the right side of the driver’s seat (to protect passengers from an opposite-side impact) is also featured. The two changes are not quite the major redesign that was expected. We’ll have live shots later in the day.

“The two changes are not quite the major redesign that was expected.”
–*Who* was expecting a major redesign?
Most of the media attending the show. The car’s been on the market since 2006.
Then they are out of date. Do a google search for 2013 MCE lambdas, you will see info from November. This shouldn’t have been a surprise to people.
Right. No one I’ve seen was expecting a major change. GM’s recent history with MCEs has been pretty unspectacular.
I am pretty sure it has been known that this was going to be a MCE for the Lambdas. Any word on the interior changes to dash, nav, radio etc. I am pretty sure that is where the focus was going to be.
Jack will have live shots and impressions shortly.
Can it be true — lower beltlines are making a comeback? The Mazda CX-5 photos seemed to indicate the same. Now if only the big-mouthed grilles could go away also.
Is glass cheaper than steel? (Yes, I am cynical.)
Hmmm… uglier. Did they increase the Cd by any significant amount?
Looks like Chevy Uplander to me. Just 15 grands more expensive.
More airbags? I am waiting for a vehicle that just fills up with foam, like in Sly Stallone’s movie Demolition Man.
I’m all for safety, but at what point will it take 10 minutes to weave one’s way around the deflated backs after an accident to get out of the demolished vehicle?
By the time you realize that you’ve been in an accident, the airbags will have deflated.
I like it! Looks butch like a GMC should, but still modern and sophisticated. The old one looks a bit sissy for a GMC.
The Acadia and corporate siblings debuted for the 2007 model year. 2013 changes are noted along with an expected change over to the more powerful efficient 3.6 LFX engine. Toyota has essentially been doing similar modest mid cycle MCE’s with cars like the Camry which has carry over engines but a refreshed front end and taillights and some new interior components wrapped in familiar sheet metal. It’s a much cheaper way of keeping interest in a product before it’s major restyle.
