Diesel, manual wagon – pick two. Jaguar just missed the Holy Trinity by offering their new XF Sportbrake with two diesel engines; a 2.2L 4-cylinder or a 3.0L V6 coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The Sportbrake only weighs 150 lbs more than the XF sedan.
Cargo room is 19/58 cubic feet with the seats up or down, roughly on par with the Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon, the Mercedes Benz E-Class and the Audi Q5. American sales haven’t been confirmed yet – it would be surprising if they did happen – but the U.S.A would need some kind of gasoline mill, likely a V8, if the Sportbrake were to be sold here.

I for one dont think that Jag needs an SUV and that all they need to do is sell these in Medium and Large. Leave the SUV’s for Land Rover.
My wife would love to be first in line for one of these. Why can’t the U.S. get the diesel? I’m all but impossible to get a car/SUV this size in the U.S. that gets decent mileage.
According to Jaguar, this has not been federalized in the US, nor engineered to do so.
Cue “Why don’t we get cool wagons in the US?” complaints.
There is a sonogram missing in the accompanying press photos.
I thought that a sporting brake only had 2 doors (plus the hatch)?
a shooting brake has 2 doors
a ‘sportbrake’ which is just a term made up by Jaguar, can be anything they say it is!
There’s nothing about this wagon that would appeal to US buyers. Fanboys couldn’t afford one and the price of diesel wouldn’t make it worth the premium.
If this was a GASP! Hybrid wagon that got 35 MPG city, we’d have a winner on our hands. Just my .02 cents.
Maybe you can download the manual from the internet.
Thanks, folks, I’ll be here all week, and don’t forget to tip your waitress.
Don’t worry, my American friends. Jaguar is probably working on a 500-hp V8-powered SUV that gets 2 mpg which will be far more appealing. ;-)
