A drunk man who was talking on his cell phone caused a three-car pile-up near Chicago, and he wasn’t even driving.
According to the Chicago Tribune, a 31-year-old intoxicated, and, to make matters worse, cell phone using man crossed Warrenville Road in Naperville, IL, after having visited a bar. Then, all hell broke loose.
Fist, the man was hit by a car. Apparently not seriously, he got up and kept running across the street. He was just about to get hit again when another slammed the brakes. The cell phone toting drunk was unharmed this time. Instead, three cars rear-ended each other. The Chicago Tribune could not ascertain the extent of the injuries to man or cars, nor “the nature of the citation he received from police.”

This pedestrian should thank whatever deity in which he believes that he didn’t become the marvel of the many blogs which document Darwinian behavior…on two counts. First, that he survived the street crossing with most of his corpuscles INSIDE his skin. Second, that the greater mass of p*ssed off motorists he placed in grave danger (“Is there any other kind?” –Col. Nathan Jessup….)with his drunken foolishness didn’t descend upon him and render to him the kind of injuries which he somehow miraculously escaped, in spades….
Apparently the stupid gene has yet been neither killed out,nor bred out of Americans. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people walking along the side of the road (not the verge, not the shoulder, not the sidewalk, but IN the rightmost lane) on busy streets at night, backs to traffic, wearing dark clothes and either gabbing cluelessly away on a celphone, or texting, or bebopping to their tunes on their I-Pod.
It is said (mainly by the Irish) that God loves drunks and fools, because He appears to have made so DAMNED many of them.
I would offer that the nanny state regulations such as no texting/drinking behind the wheel, while protecting innocent collateral damages, is also doing much to protect and propagate the stupid gene in Americans. If you’re dumb enough to drive drunk or text behind the wheel, and the only reason you don’t is because of laws telling you you can’t, then you’re probably worthless enough (in an evolutionary sense) for society to slough off through an incident related to said behavior.
We might be protecting the young, sick, and elderly (all good things, theoretically), but modern society is also coddling the idiots and evolutionary dead ends and allowing (even encouraging) them to reproduce. It’s a quickening spiral downward.

All we need are tougher drunk-walking laws. Jail them. Problem solved.

I wonder why no drivers where charged if this is categorized as “an alcohol related automoblie accident”. After all, we all know that only drivers drink. Pedestrians and cyclists never do.
