Save for some French cabinet ministers, you aren’t likely to find any of the global elite tooling around in French luxury sedans. Citroen is hoping to reverse this trend with a made-for-China luxury limo, seen above. Dubbed the “DS Numero 9”. We suppose that’s French for “Panamera lookalike”.
As beautiful as the Ctiroen C6 may be, it’s always been a poor seller, in part because the car’s aesthetic potential is likely hampered by the stodgy tastes of the European bureaucrats who are the car’s target audience. Since the DS Numero 9 was designed expressly for the Chinese market, Citroen can take a few liberties with the shape.
Officially, this car is a concept, but Citroen has slowly been going down this road for a few years. 2009 brought about the Metropolis concept car, and the DS9, with its Germanic looks and plug-in hybrid drivetrain, seems to be the latest evolution. The DS Numero 9 will get an official reveal at the Beijing Auto Show next month.

Leave it to the French to devise a hatchback limo…pure awesomeness. This is the perfect ride for a villain from the Fast and Furious series.
Actually, “DS Numero 9” means DS Number 9.
Well played.
Love potion number 9?
Stunning! Infinitely better looking than the Porker, and I am sure the ride will be sublime.
hear! hear! you are a man of fine taste mr krhodes1.
Magnifique!
Just cos it’s a luxury car with a hatch doesn’t mean it loks anything like a Panamera/
I don’t really like the Panamera’s lines, but I love this thing. It’s so… French, but in a super-modern evil sort of way. I kinda want one.
I’m glad Citreon is still making cars, that if human, would be institutionalized.
Take the glass off the grill and change the goofy matrix-pattern off of the aft/spoiler, and there you have it, the most beautiful car ever designed.
And I should add that I find the Panamera is ugly as sin.
In person it has a definite presence. It’s grown on me like an uber Rambler.
The glass on the grille is surely a nod to the classic Maserati-powered Citroen SM of 1970.
Tacky Chinese blingmobile.
(And France is full of better women than that.)
Either the car is tiny, or the staircase and building behind it are absolutely massive and imposing.
Then I saw the Chinese woman standing next to it, and either the car is tiny, or she has some absolutely massive high heels on.
The staircase and building behind it is massive and imposing, these pictures were taken in France, i believe some of them are infront of the palace at Versailles. All of pictures are in and around Paris, and while it can be difficult to judge size in pictures, the model does have on some very high heels, and the car is long and very low..
The photos with the glass pyramid in the background were taken at the Louvre. In Paris.
I don’t know where you get the Panamera parallel. This thing’s far better looking.
Lincoln? Lincoln?
WOW, what Lincoln do with a few French designers!
Dude,,dude you read my mind. I didnt get half way down the comments before I thought that this is the perfect halo car for Lincoln..
This and the aforementioned Metropolis are two of the most beautiful cars I’ve seen in years (and I think the Metropolis also has one of the coolest names) and if I had the cash, I would by either just for their looks alone. Almost makes me wish Citroen’s were sold here. Stunnning, absolutely stunning.
This is remarkable – in a good way.
The Panamerica is remarkable – in a “there are some things you just can’t un-see” way.
I’ve had a thing for Citroens since I was a kid, and even previously owning a CX hasn’t broken my love of them. If I thought I could get one of these in the US, I’d get a second job just to pay for it.
That is one beautiful car. And the interior will likewise be space-age and luxurious when they get around to building it.
Until then, I’ll pine for a DS5.
hot hot hot!
The Chinese are into French stuff — vacations, wines, and leather bags.
Just not cars — French cars in China has an image of over-styled econoboxes with ZERO cachet.
Heck, Kia sold more cars in China last year than ALL French brands COMBINED.
French cars will have to have more substance than ones made with cost-cutting mainly in mind. Maybe Nissan/Renault can change that with more substantial quality in their Chinese-built models.
I’m seduced by the marketing presentation, and you’re seduced by the actual automobile. Figures.
Actually, it’s very rare that the posters here aren’t complaining about the looks of this car. Even as a luxury vehicle, and not a mainstream model which would be too costly to style this way, it’s rare to have almost everybody agree on the beautiful styling.
Plan 9 from outer space. This is one crazy station wagon. I like.
Wake up Americans. Don’t you realize that France has always been there when they needed us? After the American Revolution, France has proudly let the United States hold it’s coat while we fought for it’s liberty. Some ally.
