According to Toyota, if you don’t drive, you won’t get the girl. But at least a yarmulke-clad Jean Reno will help you out. No wonder so many young Japanese men are staying shut in their rooms.

This was a LOL. Man, I wish I had millions to throw on ads like this, licensing Doraemon and stuff.
These are brilliant. I miss Japanese commercials, usually they’re really dull, but once in a while it seems like someone in the marketing department drops some acid and then look out…
Brilliant isn’t the word that comes to mind when I watched them.
With little kids in my house, we watch Doraemon in our house every week. Even now that we are relocated to the USA, we can still see it on TV Japan every Friday night.
Although I didn’t grow up with Doraemon, my wife and kids did and these ads would have real resonance with them. Even I, a casual fan, think they are great.
Thanks to Doraemon’s time machine, we all know Nobitai ends up with Shizuka-chan. What we didn’t see is that whole messy affair with Jai-ko. I kind of like it though – nailing your childhood bully’s little sister is a great way to get back at him. Been there, done that…
Classic…Doraemon…watched it as a kid in Japan. Maybe Toyota can get Gundam to zap the competition.
I guess nobody at TTAC has yet noticed this yet… But Subaru had a magical girl anime not long ago (Hokago no Pleiades), and right now Toyota has it’s own anime (Peace Eco Smile). So I would say Toyota is pushing full out to raise their profile and encourage driving and getting cars – even if it requires the most subtle of brainwashing…
How much did they have to pay Reno for this?!!!! Very weird and it doesn’t even end with a Toyota logo.
Honda sold me with that current TV commercial for a Civic with a girl singing “I’m a ninja, I’m a horny ninja!”
Awful waste of two minutes and nineteen seconds of my life…
