Your humble author has usually struggled as a National Solo driver, but I’m not ashamed of losing to these guys; some of them are the finest technical drivers in the world and even the worst National Solo driver is usually pretty decent. If you’ve ever wondered how you would stack up, now’s the time to find out.
The 2013 Solo season is here. TTAC may be attending a few of these, and we’ll be offering a free prize (probably a crummy press kit) for any readers who out-PAX me. (PAX is the system that equalizes times across classes, letting you compare your time in a Mustang GT vs. my time in a Honda S2000, or vice versa). More details as they come up. In the meantime, if you have one of these events near you, consider going as a spectator. Watching autocross may not sound like a compelling proposition but simply observing the way some of the best SCCA cone-crushers do it will make you a better driver, guaranteed.
Any plans on attending the Match Tour at Devens, MA in July?

is the SCCAStartingLine.com one day school worth the 400 bucks?
Michal –
The Evolution school curriculum that’s the basis for the Starting Line schools is long-established and very, very solid. I’ve been through Evo’s Phase I and Phase II schools and it will give you some tools to drive better, without a doubt. The instructors are first-rate and count a number of National Champions and Pro Solo Champions among them.
As with any school, though, it’s important to note that what you get out of it will depend on what you take in — go in with an open mind, and be willing to challenge your own established habits, get out of your comfort zone, and try the different things the instructors suggest.
For what you’re getting in terms of instruction and hardware, $400 is a steal.
If I had taken one of those courses, i wouldn’t have wrecked my S2000 years ago.

You get:
Helmet (Important to note that you get an SA rated motorsports helmet, not the (typically) less expensive ‘M’ rated motorcycle helmet.
SCCA Membership
Free Local event entry
Free National Event entry
1 Year Grassroots motorsports
AND you get a day of the best autocross school in the country.
Thanks for the feed back. Milwaukee one is coming up in May. Should be able to get the 400 bucks to pay for it by then.
Anybody who outpaxes me can have a free drink at a Mexican Restaurant. Especially if it’s in Peru or Toledo.
Mark, you are on.

Deal! The new BSP car is a monster.
I’m up for this. I usually hit up Los Tres Camino’s anyway, a free jumbo margarita would be great.
I’ll be attending a couple of Motorkhanas here as spectator. Money and more importantly time permitting, I may try to give it a go too.
You’re a cruel SOB, Baruth, for encouraging people to spectate. Autoxing well requires skill and precision, to be sure, but staring at it for more than 2 or 3 minutes will actually cause the viewer to hate cars, motorsports, and autoxers. Scientific fact. You can look it up.
