If you want a modern Bugatti that’s more exclusive than the Veyron, and cheaper too, here’s your chance.
This 1994 Bugatti EB110 can be picked up for $415,000 – far less than the 7 figure pricetag a new Veyron commands – but with just 139 cars built, is destined to be a far rarer sight than the bloated orcas that populate every rap video and Gulf State shopping mall.
The EB110 is no technical lightweight either. When it was introduced in 1991, it was the first example of a road-going vehicle with a carbon fiber tub. The body panels were aluminum, while the 3.5L V12 featured four turbochargers and revved to an incredible 9,000 RPM.
While the Bring-A-Trailer ad correctly asserts that keeping this car running will cost a fortune, what supercar isn’t a nightmare to run? No matter what the cost of spares and maintenance is for an EB110, it will undoubtedly be less than the absurdly expensive Veyron maintenance program, and the car has character in spades – unlike Herr Piech’s mostly-automated death machine.

This was the car that started my auto obsession. Agree that EB110 > Veyron.
Me too! It also started my obsession with cars in the pure blue shade shown in the picture.
I cannot agree strongly enough. The car may not have been a success, but it was a brilliant piece of automtive art which has infinitely more grace than VAG’s efforts. The EB112 follow-up saloon also should be mentioned, for beating the 4-door fastback coupe and Bentley Continental GT by over a decade.
I’m admittedly out of date on this, but what rap videos feature the veyron?
Birdman, Fire Flame Spittas
I’m pretty sure Birdman hasn’t been relevant since about 2004.
I’m sure I’m not the only one on this board who had a die-cast model of this car in their room
Yup, I had one too. Same color as the one in the pic too.
Ditto, in 1:18 scale. I looooved that car in my tween years.
+1. I remember the hardware holding one of the doors came loose and re-securing it was difficult for a 1:18 scale model. A perfect scale Bugatti repair experience.
Yup! It’s on top of the fridge in my parents’ garage back in B-more. It’s a 1:18 scale Bburago, unfortunately in a metallic orange hue better suited for a Solstice.
The EB110 was sportin’ dorky black-rimmed glasses long before Dwayne and Lebron.
I HAVE the die cast on my shelf right now :) I still remember seeing a silver SS model and noting how poor the fit was.
Did not change my deep desire for this forgotten master piece.
My dad bought the red 1:18 diecast of this. I still have it somewhere. I think Ebro made this one.
I don’t have a die-cast. But I do remember this one very well from the 90s Road and Track.
The form is much better than the Veyron.
I suppose this is also the inspiration that triggered the VW boss to dump money to develop the Veyron.
Overall I like but those headlights look like they came off of a Saturn SL1
That was also a pet-peeve of mine about the car. Although I suppose it added some distinction to the car to help it stand the test of time.
If you can afford the price of entry, I very much doubt that the maintenance of a Veyron is going to seem “absurdly expensive”.
I always found the EB110 to be rather ugly.
No wai! It’s the best car evar! … It’s got all the best things of a Subaru SVX, a Saturn SC1, a Lamborghini Countach and a Nissan 300Z!!!11!
Just need hire a full-time mechanic, and to buy a second EB110 for spares.
I’m with you krhodes. This is probably one of my least favorite cars. I’d take a Type 37 (even one of the nice Argentine replicas) 10 times out of 10 over the 110 or the Veyron.
Such a strangely designed car. Everything behind the front wheels is gorgeous, but everything in front is sort of a jumbled mess. I’d still say it’s a beautiful car overall.
I suppose it’s like riding a scooter (or a fat chick) – you don’t mind the looks so much once you’re in the driver’s seat and things get moving.
Frankly I have nothing against the Veyron – it’s surely an engineering marvel and I kinda dig its sci-fi looks (and sci-fi acceleration) combined with a downright civilized interior. I’m glad it exists.
But I was only allowed to drive one or the other, I’d choose the EB110.
I still remember the Road and Track cover story with the silver and blue EB110s. Not a bad car, but modern Bugattis have never captured my imagination. If you want to go vintage supercar, I would skip over both to opt for a Ferrari F40 or a Mclaren F1
Agreed
I still hate the ridiculous pig-nose, but the EB110 is pretty, in a dork-ish sort of way.
If they could have just smoothed the bonnet, and made the head lamps pop-up style, it would have drastically improved the looks.
I remember the EB110 as the Veyron of its day. With all wheel drive and four turbos, it was the heaviest most complicated option in the supercar market. The XJ220, F50 and Mclaren were all better looking, simpler and sportier. Its funny that compared to its succesor the EB110 is remembered as a spartan supercar deal.
“I am guessing $3k per year in maint, minimum…But then again I could be way off, it may be more like $6k per year to maintain.”
LOL.
