The first shots of the Alfa Romeo 4C have been released, and it’s just as gorgeous as one would expect a mid-engined Alfa to be. A 1.75L turbocharged 4-cylinder and a 6-speed twin-clutch gearbox motivate the 4C. No horsepower rating has been released, but in current Alfas, the same engine makes 232 horsepower. We’ll have to wait for the car’s debut at the Geneva Auto Salon for more details.

Now if only we could have the Italians do the drawing and the Japanese do the building. That would be the end-all to having beautiful, reliable cars.
And I really don’t understand why they can’t do a joint venture. 70% TMC, 30% AR.
Such as the 2015 Mazda Miata/Alfa Romeo Spider?
+1 Speed3.
I thought these “photos” (read CGI rendering) were released over a YEAR ago before the 4C was even seen as a Concept Vehicle.
Meh, the looks don’t really do much for me.
I don’t see what’s so great about “Italian styling.”
Absolutely gorgeous. I probably need to borrow my friend’s FJ to learn how to drive with those 3/4 blindspots.
+1 CoreyDL
I worked for a guy who was fond of saying “get the Italians to design it, the Germans to engineer it, and the Japanese to build it . . .”

“What is behind me is of no importance . . . . .” Beside me? maybe.
That car is beautiful. Hopefully, it will sticker under $50,000, but not likely.
The inside reports say EUR 60K, so figure on about $60K.
The sources say EUR 60K, which will likely end up at something like US$60K.
Looks like a bit too much MR2 in the back half, but the prior concepts have been beautiful so I assume that it’s just the photo
Damn. That is one looker. Can’t wait for Alfa DOMINATION!
It is a sharp looking little car. But the pictures have me curious–how would a person ever service the engine? The cut lines don’t appear to be anywhere near where they would have to be to get to it, and if the rear window hinges up, the opening is still terribly narrow.
Maybe like the Boxster, it’s not meant to be owner-serviced? The Boxster doesn’t even have an engine cover lid. The fluids are accessed remotely, and if anything needs to be done to the motor it’s done from below, or with the motor out.
Car and Driver estimates the MSRP to be about $55,000 for this wimpy 232 horsepower turd.
Considering that TTAC ran screaming headlines lambasting the C7 Vette and GM in general for even DARING to bring a $50,000, 450 horsepower car to market, this seems to be another installment of TTAC’s European interior porn.
But to not even mention the jaw-dropping price? tsk tsk!
Larry, there were no price announcements or official horsepower figures. Your strawman looks especially fragile.
It looks even uglier from the lateral 3/4 view of the ‘wrecked’ photo-like a tarted up new-gen Camaro. Again, GM has built a car with great performance, but are so worried about alienating the 60-yr-old buyers they pander to that we once again get the cabin-back-giant-ass look that died 30 (40?) years ago.
Looks like the design started out on something a bit longer. Looks squished together and is definitely not my cup of tea.
So this car is going to cost north of 50k (from what I’ve read elsewhere) and have RX8 performance.
You can keep it.
If it really comes in at under 2,000 lbs, which is claimed, then it will have performance at the extreme end of the Lotus Exige range.
Another one jumps in the SLK/Boxster mall shopping cart race.
Echoing the sentiments of CoreyDL, an Alfa styled like this, with the reliability improvements Mazda can bring, priced remotely reasonably, and they’ll not be able to keep them in stock.
It’s simply a gorgeous car, and gorgeous in a way that brings true original styling to what is an otherwise homogenous, bland sea of “blah,” “safe” and “me too” that is today’s automotive landscape.
Besides the LED blisters and the weird wheels, I dig it. I’d take two of these over an 8C.
Car looks gorgeous.
And to think I remember my dad used vaffan… to tell people to go get stuffed, not to say something was fantastic. I still remember some (if not all) the Italian swearing repertoire.
If only Toyota would make a new MR2
Beautiful.
Beauty! The return of the X1/9!
I thought this came out in Europe already, that concept has been around for a while. For me it is hard to get excited about. I did not care for it then, still don’t now. The resemblance to lotus is difficult to ignore, and although I dig swoopy design (Ferrari Dino, that Bugatti concept) there is something unharmonious about this. But what the @#$& do I know…I like the new Vette.
You may be thinking of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, which has similar proportions and styling, even though I’d argue that this version looks dramatically better with its nip & tuck of bulbous overhangs, sharper creases, and significantly improved front and (especially) rear end.
I’m amazed how some comment here with very little knowledge, understanding or thinking. This is a 4kg per bhp car. That’s 10% better than a Cayman R! For the RX8 (which frankly is a class below) it’s 5.5kgs. In essence if you imagine a low price Ferrari, this is very close to that!
That power-to-weight ratio (assuming it really weighs 2000 lbs … which I’m skeptical about) is basically the same as the Audi TT-RS. A very different technical solution, but definitely a 4C competitor.
I’m digging this.
Simply put, what a sexy car.
Not really feeling it, looks as though somebody shoved a Stratos and some Alfa parts in Seth Brundle’s telepod.
Just a quick note: Alfa Romeo e Stupend-A!
You got right the “vaffanculo” and that was the harder part, bravo, but Alfa (and also “car”) is female and therefore is stupend-A, not stupend-O ….
Ever since the ’57 Fords I’ve liked single, big round taillights.
