Maserati was supposed to debut their smaller Ghibli sedan at the Shanghai Auto Show, but the pictures have managed to surface prior to that. Not that it’s such a big shocker; it looks just like a slightly smaller Quattroporte. Powertrains will be limited to turbocharged six cylinder engines using either gas or diesel engines, mated to an 8-speed automatic engine. Ten points for anyone with enough of a sense of humor to affix “Biturbo” badges to the car. All-wheel drive will also be available.

A sneak peak at the evolution of the Chrysler LX cars? Suprising how much that interior looks like that of the Charger.
And exactly that is what I buy for my money. I even prefer the looks, quite a lot.
One of the new Maseratis has been reported to be LX (the current 300/charger/challenger platform) based, this must be the one as I also see the similarities. Maser is also going to build their SUV, the levante, on the Grand Cherokee platform.
That red interior is garish. A different color – like tan – would be better for my tastes.
The exterior resembles a Tesla Model S (front) and Infiniti G37 (rear). Or – more correctly – the S resembles the Maserati.
Oh look, it’s a new Infiniti QJX75.
I think it looks good. It could do well (by Maserati standards) for them.
But “Ghibli” is just the wrong name for a diesel-powered sedan.
There is something wrong about naming a sedan Ghibli. Ghiblis always had 2 doors, even the forgettable second generation.
I remember the original Ghibli had 2 13-gallon fuel tanks, fillable from both left and right sides.
Am I the only one who sees current gen Kia Optima tailights on this car? Honda copying Hyundai and now Maserati copying Kia….whats the world coming to?!?!
I sort of see the resemblance, but I wouldn’t have seen it had you not first mentioned it…
The Maserati for the masses…The “Masserati” has arrived.
If only it had a biturbo we would be be back in 1984!
It looks good, better than the upsized new generation Quattroporte. I guess as they up-sized that, the opening for the Ghibli was created. It’s interesting to see FIAT’s strategy here. No dilution of the bloodline for Ferrari, but Maserati’s more problematic past means they can use it to provide the sedans (and SUVs) emerging markets (and idiots) demand without worrying about widespread accusations of blasphemy.
Ohhh, I want the eight speed automatic engine. Sounds like it would make a great blender.
Like the last Quattroporte, Maserati knows how to do swoop correctly. Poor Infiniti tries.
It looks good to me; Maserati needs a larger portfolio of products. They just need to keep the prices in check, and keep from having differently-sized vehicles that otherwise look exactly the same.
And I don’t know why everyone from Jaguar to Hyundai is going to that BMW Steptronic-esque gear selector…
Both this and the latest 3-series look like and elephant sat on the leading edge of the hood.

(that’s the noise it makes when an elephant sits on the leading edge of your hood)
Looks great! Will look even better in the metal for sure.
