Ford is adding a week of production at most of its North American factories this year for an additional 40,000 vehicles, Reuters says. Plants will be idled for just one week this summer instead of the traditional two.
GM and Chrysler will also limit downtime. Three of Chrysler’s U.S. factories, including the Jefferson North plant in Detroit, will not observe the summer shutdown. GM does not have a formal summer shutdown period for its factories. Earlier this week GM North America chief Mark Reuss said GM could not afford a break.

Good news. At this rate some of the big 3 will be needing additional plants.
I know Chrysler could use an additional wrangler plant and has for awhile.
Whatever Ford is doing seems to be working. My wife, a fan of German lux-mobiles, has been talking about how nice the new MKZ looks and dropping hints like “I wonder how much it costs.”
. . .
Yep! My wife has made similar comments, along the lines of: “I think all the new Fords look good, I’d drive any one of.” This comes from a women who basically made me sell my Ranger because the handling was “roly poly” (IE: tippy/wobbly) and the constant repair bills made payments on a new Dodge Dakota seem like a steal.

Is the 10 yr auto loan far off in the future?
Do you think they can give me a 1900 year loan on a Veyron Super Sport? I’ll sign right now. I DON’T CARE bout’ my great, great great granchildren’s future!
Have you seen the cost of them tires? and how about the fuel?
OK – how about a 30,000 year loan?
A cream-puff 2000-year old Veyron might be worth a lot of money! (Or whatever form of “currency” is in use two millenia from now.)
What I love about TTAC is that I can see an article on that other blog, think about it a few hours, and then contribute my insights here.
Sometimes its the other way…by a few days.
Good for them! Those Ford guys don’t bat 1,000, but they try real hard, that’s obvious.
Meanwhile in Awstraya…

Old news. What’s more interesting is: what’s the vehicle depicted on the gigantic scrim hanging from the building.
