Our tech team applied a security update that appears to munch text. They are hard at work on fixing the problem. It’s not your computer that has character flaws, it’s ours.

I haven’t been able to access new content on the site for 24+ hours. Only once I logged in did I see new content. Weird!
I have experienced exactly the same issue.
Me too
Same thing here. Regardless of browser, if you aren’t logged in the site is frozen in time from yesterday. Last new article is the April US Car Sales article from Bertel.
Same here, I thought everyone took the day off.

Having just sent a similar message via the contact form, add my voice to that list. I noticed it was not just a lack of updates, but the munching of the Coda requiem article plus all comments made from approximately 1500 hours, May 1, to this morning, whereupon all comments and articles returned.
I’ve had a problem for a while where the end of long lines is truncated by the content in the column which takes up the right third of the page.
I think that happens when you go back and edit your postings; it has happened to me.
Is it your computer that has character flaws, or the persons at the keyboard? ;) Seriously, thank you all for all you do; from another computer programmer….
me too. And it doesn’t have to do with editing.
No issues, new content appears normally editing works fine…. just letting you know it’s not across the board problems
Is this why I’ve not gotten any new posts in a whole month ? .
Bummer , that .
Kudos for trying to be proactive .

Nate,
What do you mean by that? Have you not seen any new posts for the entire month?
Yes , this is exactly what happened .
Once in a while I’d get a reply from an older post but nothing new for over a month .
I really missed my T.T.A.C. Fix .
Tom / Sajeev and the rest I always respond to , fee free to send me anything new since my last reply .
BTW : I’m now a Grandpa ! whee .

That really sucks – I wondered what happend to you. You had me worried, man.
I’m as O.K. as I get get .
Missed some work due to the physical injuries again .
Got the brakes rebuilt bleed out on my Met (avatar) and am readying it for two up coming Road Rallies ~ The Drive To The Center Of The Earth 5/19 and The So. Cal. Cycle TT Ride Memorial day .
Sadly , I’m doubtful I’ll ever ride my Moto all day long again so the Promoter allows me to drive my cars .

(scratches head) How can people who aren’t seeing new posts see this one?
They can see it after they sign in. If you aren’t a member and aren’t signed in, the most recent post you can see is from may 1st.
I’m guessing you see everything updated because you are always signed in, but I don’t save my passwords on my computers so I have to sign in manually every time I start my browswer.
I see, thanks
Tell your “tech team” to actually view the source code and page headers, as the cause will become blatantly obvious – you are currently serving a HTTP Content-type header (generated either by WordPress or Apache) defining the charset as UTF-8, and then trying (unsuccessfully as the header has precedence) to use a meta charset element to set the charset as ISO-8859-1. One of these charsets is wrong – I will leave it to your “tech team” to find out which ;)
Yeah, I think that nails it because I have noticed unknown characters pop up in ttac texts while using v12.15 of Opera, which tries to match characters to any of those listed in its vocabulary.
I would add that the sheer number of elements (>600) used to form the ttac pages only slows down and unnecessarily complicates downloads, especially if download speed is less than optimum because of heavy backbone traffic.
On several occasions I have had to turn on the Turbo option on Opera to download abbreviated articles sans pictures, just to keep from timing out.
Uh ;
I know that was full on tech talk but I didn’t understand any of it.
Could we get back to simple things like the proper shimming of the cluster gears in pre war Saginaw gear boxes ? .
Just kidding here .
-Nate
Sorry Nate. I found myself agreeing with zekele.
I run a Home Area Network for anyone within range of my Netgear Router and have on several occasions tried to solve the problems they experienced with downloading pages and/or text; Mostly old folks in their sixties and seventies exploring the world wide web.
Some of the problems, like character insertion, are real head scratchers. Not as simple as shimming something mechanical. Wish it were.
sometimes the text disappears into the right margin for me and is not a huge issue but sometimes it seems the text is slightly off to the right margin,
_STILL_ no joy ;
I’ve tried logging in on different ‘puters and I sent a note to the Administrator…
I’m dying out here with no TTAC fix .
