It’s said that only 5 R63 AMGs ever made it to Canada. They all must be in Toronto. I know of two in the neighborhood I grew up in, while another one was for sale a few months ago in Oakville (and still is). Meanwhile, this one just popped up for $31,000. According to the ad “ONLY SERIOUS BUYAER FOR MORE INFO PLEASE ONLY CALL. ANY TIME”. So, go do that. I would, if I had the extra cash. Then again, financial responsibility is overrated.

All kinds of spelling/grammar errors in that ad. A native-French speaker? However, I think anyone with the cash to buy that car to being with would have a better command of the English language.
So, scam.
If they show a pic of the car in the ad, with the plate not visible (not including blocked out), or a dealer plate like above, I’m always suspicious.

What is it with these vehicles and their lesser siblings? I live in an “old-money” resort area where overnight they have become the estate (literally) wagon darling of choice. Not old Cherokees or Wagoneers, but these R-Class including the AMG. I saw two R63s and at least a dozen standard R-Class wagons in town last Saturday alone. Maybe Canada only got 5, but I know where the rest of the North American allocation ended up

In certain communities there seems to be a tendency to always order the AMG, not because high performance is desired but because it’s pointedly the most expensive variant. But those communities tend not to be genuinely old money, IME, even if the physical community has been around for a long time.
Spot on. The one I grew up in comes to mind, unfortunately.
AMG is what you get when everyone else in the Parking Lot has Mercedes. Black is what you get when there are a few AMG in the lot.
Bentley has a nice niche in the close in suburbs of NY as the car to get when ALL your friends have a Mercedes.
Actually the age of their money is relatively unimportant, it’s a community where the last name on the gates of their “summer cottages”, which generally have remained in the same family for 100+ years, speak louder then anything they drive could. It’s these people who have suddenly embraced the R-Class as their weekend crapwagon. Choosing not to follow the larger trend toward old Jeeps, but obviously are not above the peer pressures within their own circles.

Hearses are much nicer looking. Better laid out for sleeping in the back as well (duh!).
Rock hard AMG suspensions and wide, grippy tires, combined with less than well braced minivan chassis; is one of the best known recipes for incredible amounts of premature creaks and rattles…..
I saw one parked at an upholstery fabric store in Ottawa about two years ago.

What the picture above doesn’t begin to show is how whale-like it is from the front. The windshield and roof sweep up like the prow of a Zeppelin.
I believe it. Canada is apparently AMG’s second best market per capita.
Now I see why Lincoln makes the MKT. They have become quite popular here in NYC as liveries rebadged as Town Cars. A few R350 and 500’s liveries as well. As far as the R63 is concerned I have seen a few here and upstate horsey country. I don’t think they were liveries.
The MKT is a great used buy as well. EcoBoost versions tend to be priced less than the Flex EcoBoost. It is significantly more ugly, but I would only have to look at the quality interior while driving. Plus, with the MKT, it is possible to make money with funerals and airport runs.
I have no need for a people hauler, but if I did MkFlex would be worth a look CPO.
I have no need for one as well but if I did need a people hauler it would be at the top of my list. The rear side doors are about as long as a executive luxury car such as a 750il or Jag XJL. I do like the styling of the MKT far more than you bland people movers/SUV’s. It has a certain amount of retro flair with elements of 41 Continental and 49 Ford wagon. Though the Beluga whale nose can be excessive.
I frequent the Craigslist and eBay sites along with auto trader.
Is it just me, or are the spelling and grammar skills of our population slipping at an increasing rate?
While I am no English major, I do know the difference between breaks and brakes.
I would assume that the “buyaer” here is just a typo, but the majority of ads I see are a combination of text, slang, and …I don’t know- Spanglish I guess.
As a side note, I always wanted to show up at a “serious buyers only” with a clown suit on. Of course I would also have a wad of cash to see just how “serious” the seller is about selling.
Spelling mistakes I can tolerate, I make my fair share too.
What is appalling is the “texting” mode….you know, no punctuation, no capitalization, and unrestrained contraction of words.

Having briefly lived and worked in Toronto, I would say adds like this are the norm – especially for euro cars. 1 out of 2 people in that city cannota-speaka-di-hinglish very well.
That would be ads, not adds (as in “advertisement”, not “addvertisement). And I would say misspellings like that are the norm among those who consider that they speaka-di-hinglish just fine, any more.

I guess what I’m noticing here is that of the four people who criticized the spelling in the ad (and let’s be honest – it was probably a typo), two of them misspelled a word doing it.
Supposedly 49% of Toronto residents were not born in Canada. And yes, that’s not “not born in Toronto” or “not born in Ontario” – that’s “not born in Canada.”
I’m OCD to begin with. (Sorry for that grammar faux pas, but we’re talking spelling..! ;-) )
I also had a high-school English teacher who was cooler-than-cool (including being a huge Far Side fan), who made it fun to be a grammar snob!
I use to work for MB. Anyone interested in the V8’s gets pushed into an AMG. They usually bite too, because unless the vehicle just debuted they’ll give massive discounts to move them. Any one of the R63’s (and equally rare older E55 wagons, only 4 or 6 of those in Canada too) was sold with a massive, sometimes $20,000 discount.
It was nothing to see them give $100K+ in discounts to move those SLR’s too. Mainly because they were sick of them sitting around for YEARS on end.
What the heck ? .
I was born & raised in America and went to public schools but my grasp of the English Language as spoken & written in America, is tenuous as best .
Couple that with fat fingers and never enough time to go back and proof read , of _course_ there’s going to be spelling errors .
