While GM’s next-generation SUVs are slated to debut at September’s Texas State Fair, the Cadillac Escalade will get its own launch event in New York City.
Instead, the Escalade will be revealed on October 7th in the Big Apple. There have been conflicting reports over the past year regarding the new truck’s direction. We’ve heard that it will be both more ostentatious and more reserved. October 7th will be the moment of truth.

One thing is certain: There Will Be Chrome.
“One thing is certain: There Will Be Chrome.”
In that case, I’ll love it. After all, bright window reveal and chrome door handles cover a lot of sins!
…and LEDs, lots and lots of LEDs

I’m sure it will be: No Cadillac for Old Men.
Lordy Lordy please don’t ruin it.
Oh who am I kidding it will probably have cyclinder deactivation, some crappy IRS, and be based off a car platform.
I think you can count on it being on the new GM truck platform.
Modern cylinder deactivation is not a bad thing, it can improve highway fuel economy without any significant downsides. (No, the V8-6-4 does not count as “modern.”)
Cyclinder deactivation has yet to produce a variety that hasn’t had complaints of oil consumption, the gains are so minimal that the cost of the equipment to the savings in MPG is nonexistent, add to that the tons of reliability complaints, and your losing a lot of previous GM customers. The straight 6.2 and for that matter all LSX engines without cyclinder deactivation are something of extreme reliability and upgradability, their cheap, light weight, what’s not to love, why kill a good thing?
I didn’t know this about GM cylinder de-activation engine problems until today when I took the company pick-up in for an oil change. The dealer service manager asked about the 09 Silverado with the 5.3. He asked if I had any oil consumption issues. I said no, why do you ask. He said they are doing repairs on about 2 per week that have excessive oil usage.
Yea, it’s been pretty bad, they thought they fixed it in 2010 with better oil rings on the pistons, but no dice.
I believe it has been a massive failure, if I wanted a 4 cyclinder I would buy them, but these people are buying V8s, many tune out the cyclinder deactivation in hopes of not experiencing the problems, there’s also the deal with aftermarket exhausts.
GM Powertrain released a Tech Service Bulletin to address oil consumption on the AFM 5.3L The system was released in 2007.

This is not a fundamental flaw in the AFM system. Repairs are relatively minor- a rocker cover and internal oil deflector change, apparently, and covered by the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
No one that owns a Cadillac Escalade tows with it anyways so why not have an IRS and have it based on a car platform. Haven’t you ever noticed the Caddys come with a nice cover that hides the reciever hitch because the owners wouldn’t have a clue what that hole in their rear bumper is for anyways.
Not for nothing, but selling more than a handful of late-model pre-owned luxury cars and SUVs, I can say for a fact that there is a good percentage of the Escalade/Land Rover/Navigator set that actually tow and haul. Lexus/Infiniti? BMW? Not so much.
When i was out snowmobiling in the Black Hills a few years back I did see a fairly large and heavy enclosed snowmobile trailer being pulled by a Tahoe sized Escalade Hybrid of alll things. And in MN during the summer you do see them pulling boats, usually one of those $80K Malibu or MasterCraft wakeboard jobs with towers full of speakers.
A friend of mine has a long Escalade and uses to tow stuff pretty regularly – either his hobby cars (he has a bunch of old Mopars), or construction equipment at his job.
GM VP of North American Vehicle engineering commuted from the west side of Lansing- an hour and half from his office at the GM Tech Center in Warren.
He chose Escalade EXT for his commute above any other vehicle. He could have driven anything he wanted.
Another buddy who made and lost fortunes as an Entrepreneur and CEO, is a handyman working out of the bed of his Black Esc EXT, too. I wonder what impression that makes on his customers.
I squint my eyes while driving my Sierra Extended cab so I can imagine it is an Escalade! lol
The SUVs ride much, much better than the pickups, though.
Not sure if your talking about one person in particular, but the few people I know with escalades all tow with them, but of course they all own businesses as well.
Why kill a good thing, although by that same reasoning, you must be pretty happy that BMW no longer builds for performance but rather for the name. Just because a few people don’t use a vehicle as intended doesn’t mean that the vehicle use type needs to change.
“why not have an IRS and have it based on a car platform.”
It’s called the Cadillac SRX.
That teaser makes it look like it will have a front end theme similar to the Ciel concept.
I liked the Ciel, despite being generally un-interested in luxury cars and what they stand for.
And I liked the Ciel for only for one reason: the front looks like a machine, and has no hidden smiley face.
If the new Escalade skips the Lightning McQueen grin, there will be something that I will genuinely like about it. :-)
Indie Rock Photographer, Autumn de Wilde… (eye roll)
Too bad Jimmie Fallon already signed up with the Lincoln Motor Company!
Its a big old gaudy Cadillac, why not just get Don Draper to do the introduction? (No I don’t mean Jon Hamm, I mean Jon Hamm as his character Don Draper. No “breaking character” allowed.)
Hmm, the teaser photo above also appeared on the book cover that was published on 6 November 2012, almost a year ago…

The friends I have still working on the front lines are proud of the stuff they’re flogging for the Cadillac brand these days. In the 70’s, I briefly worked with an old-school gentleman who quickly corrected me when I said I was heading to a meeting with the “Caddy” boys. He said, “David, a caddy is someone who carries your clubs when golfing. A Cadillac is a fine motorcar”. This pride of product seems to be making a comeback. I hope they maintain the momentum with this Escalade. If they could just take the professionalism epitomized by the late Mr. Dickinson and apply it dealership wide, imagine the coup they could claim in the industry. Buying a Cadillac would again be something to look forward to. Amway and their MLM ilk would again bring the sheep to play in the aspirational showrooms after their revival meetings.
I would weep openly if Cadillac would only give us an Escalade with the design/interior restraint of a well-equipped Range Rover and the mechanical reliability of a Chevy truck. It would be pleasant to consider owning a luxury SUV beyond the expiration of the warranty.
In which case, you should contact your local Lexus dealer.

I’m a huge, new Lexus fan.
Dude, have you seen the repair record or the RX? Again, resting on their past glory will catch up to Toyota. The quality is no longer there.
it’s an appealing concept, and the current one’s interior is pretty darn nice/refined as it is, but just tone down the crazy rap-star exterior.

I do love the Lexus, but desperately want to stay with something domestic (or at least with something that’s assembled in the U.S.). GM’s got the drivetrain reliability part down cold. Just give me a higher quality of leather, substitute high quality wood for plastic, and include plenty of sound-deadening insulation. Oh, and keep the gaudy wreath/shield nonsense to a minimum on the exterior. That is all.
I take issue with you calling that interior refined. It’s nice in an “acres of hard plasti-wood” sort of way. And refined in a “better than Silverado” sense.
The Yukon Denali basically fits the bill, no?
I ageee with CoreyDL — way too much plastic. The Yukon Denali is VERY close, but the quality of the seating leather is embarassing and the faux plastic-wood on the dash is an abomination. If they would simply use the refinement of a Range Rover as their inspriation, I think Cadillac would really have something worthwhile.
Give me a break about the quality of the leather seating. The
leather seats in our Tahoe are wearing better after 6 years than the ones in the Audi we leased prior after 3 years. And it has over 3 times as many miles on it.
And who cares about real wood unless your talking floors in a home. i’d rather have imitation in a car/truck for a number of reasons as long as looks good.
It’s simply a matter of refinement as you go up the food chain. I too have a Tahoe and agree that the leather seating is appropriately durable. I don’t, however, expect to find acres of plastic and cheap wood in the Cadillac that costs $25,000 more. Quality leather at that price point doesn’t simly mean “durable”, it means a much higher grade of leather and stiching. For value and durability, the Tahoe is a great choice. But for luxury, there needs to be a clear differentiation in materials quality.
This seems probable:

Seems the ostentation hasn’t changed.
I find the present Escalade vulgar and crass. And since it is a sales success, that is exactly what the replacement should be. Just improve the quality of the materials and give it a unique dashboard.
It is still a stupid, ridiculous vehicle, simply a Chevrolet POS, for ridiculous, stupid people. And keep in mind, it’s still a GM.
Well, that was constructive.
It’s GM’s “blingier” version of a Suburban. This is America; drive a new, expensive ride and few will judge you as ridiculous and/or stupid. As for a “a Chevrolet POS”, Suburbans are in the Presidents motorcade. GM must be doing something right.
Needs a log axle to haul the gravity challenged.
Hopefully it won’t be nothing more than a tarted up Chevy Tahoe like the current generation. The current LTZ Tahoe is a much better looking and classier SUV IMHO. Plus it isn’t saddled with mileage robbing AWD and the lack of a low range.
That’s what everyone who can’t afford the Cadillac says. Sour grapes.
Why not buy the biggest and best Chevy SUV? A Suburban LTZ is basically bigger, better, faster, than a Tahoe. Tint the windows, leave a couple of shotguns in the backseat, and have a cheap laptop showing some random address up and running. You’ll get few foolish questions when you stop for gas and coffee at a mini-mart.
I love how your comments are always irrelevant.
There’s something ironic about an “indie” photographer being used to promote a massive brand like Cadillac.
Mercedes is using Indie Instagram photographers for it’s latest lifestyle campaign: http://www.adverblog.com/2013/07/30/instagram-fame-at-heart-of-the-latest-mercedes-benz-usa-campaign/
I agree, it feels very “poser”.
Can’t wait to miss this reveal.
A posermobile. Buy a real luxury car and a real offroader instead of this mongrel.
For the same price? An S/7/8 and a jeep? Suburbans make some fine off roaders. Four guys, eight shotguns, and 2 dogs; that kinda activity.
Offroad vehicle? Bahaha, would you also consider an AWD Lamborghini to be an offroad vehicle?
What’s wrong with it as a luxury vehicle? It’s smooth, quite, well optioned, you sound like you just have a vendetta against GM.
What’s wrong with it as a luxury vehicle? To use a SUV for a luxury vehicle is like go to a party in track shoes, it works but it tells people that you are a hillbilly and it´s ugly as fu*k. That goes for most of the SUVs. I don´t have a vendetta against anything. You sound like you get your paycheck from GM.
My friend, you are one strange man, I’m guessing you’ve never been in an escalade, there pretty nice. Better than any CUV Europeans lux brands make.
While I still believe you have something against GM, as this IS a beautiful truck, I’ll let it slide as jealousy.
He obviously has never been in one. They are the “deep rides” of today, roomy and luxurious. Even the President likes to ride in the less plush variation.
I have been in an Escalade and i don´t see what´s so special about this barge. Look up how many they sell in Europe, not many. For every Escalade sold in Germany, there are about 14 Audi Q7.
Germans don’t choose them. So what?
Haha, can you not make your own opinions, do you rely on others to make decisions and just do what they do?
When the Germans can build something that only needs filters, gas, oil, and tires in 100k, tell them to call me.
In fact let me turn this around on you, have you ever been to Germany? Those roads are incredibly small, the fact Escalades do as well as they do on those cramped roads, with the massive taxes the truck suffers, is nothing short of a miracle.
Can you even answer that?
Expensive truck
Massive taxation
Rediculous fuel prices
Massive size in comparison to the norm for Europeans
Hard to park for people used to Porsches….
And the thing actually sells, how is that not embarrassing to your whole argument?
I hope the reveal is in Manhattan. Escalades aren’t bought to take four wheeling or do hot laps around VIR. They’re bought by the conspicuous consumption types. Showing off expensive rides drives this market. Just like Canali suits. No one needs one, but damn they look good.
I’m actually pretty surprised how little we know about the new ‘Slade with just two months before its debut. We had pretty clear spy shots of the current-gen rig many months before it was officially unveiled. My guess is that they kept it a truck (not an extended-Lambda CUV), and like the Silverado, Tahoe, Sierra and Yukon, it will not be a dramatically different design. There’s only so much you can do with a big black-and-chrome two-box wagon…and the Infinity QX56 is what happens when you try to do too much.
Infiniti Custom Cruiser LeSabre Estate Safari ;)
“In fact let me turn this around on you, have you ever been to Germany?”
Every year, and many more times than you have apparently.
“Those roads are incredibly small, the fact Escalades do as well as they do on those cramped roads, with the massive taxes the truck suffers, is nothing short of a miracle.” You don´t know sh*t. Audi Q7 is about the same size.
“And the thing actually sells, how is that not embarrassing to your whole argument?” 14 to 1 is not selling.
You forgot to tell me that i have a vendetta towards GM?
An extremely limited availability vehicle sells enough to compare against an Audi on home country, that’s pretty impressive.
And no a Q7 is nowhere near the size of an escalade, the escalade makes the Q7 look tiny in comparison.
Cadillac Escalade
Length 5052 mm
Width 2004 mm
Audi Q7
Length 5088 mm
Width 1984 mm
Tiny?
5662mm isn’t available?
While yea the shorter does exist, that’s not the one I usually think about.
