Usually this would be news that would put me on the edge of my seat, but after seeing the trucks, I’m rather scared at what may be coming.
Not to mention the great disparity between the trucks and SUVs in GMT900, that was terrible.
I’ll never understand why they put such an attractive front clip on the SUVs while the pickups looked like ass.
I’m not sure what generation your talking about, but I feel the GMT 900 SUVs front end looked terrible in comparison to the 900 trucks and especially the 800 SUVs
Put that HD Denali front end onto a 3/4 gmc Yukon XL
Styling being subjective, I always found the GMT900 Tahoe to look brawny and masculine while the Silverado looked very plain and somewhat awkward. On the other hand, I liked the Sierra but thought the Yukon looked really feminine and cheap by its single round headlights and high-mounted turn signals.
Easton I would agree with that assesment 100%. Styling aside the GMT 900 SUV’s were a huge improvement over what they replaced. Especially the interiors, no more mouse fur headliners for starters.
Booo!
So you show a Hybrid Tahoe, I presume so you can take it in the direction that GM gave up on them and they were complete failures in the market…And aren’t as good as the Prius.
I think it’s the best looking of the GMT900 SUVs, but that’s just me.
ok..the above was my poor attempt at Tuesday morning humor…nothing to see here..move along.
The day of the SUV is over. It’s all about big cars now!
Maybe for you but not for us boaters, campers, snowmobilers ect. The good new is the next gen Tahoe/Burb will still be a real truck that you can put to work. Our ’07 Tahoe is an excellent tow vehicle and I am always amazed at how well it handles 8K pounds of Sea Ray cruiser and everything else I hook to the back of it.
Yeah man…can’t wait for that new Panther! While the days of 2007 level SUV sales are over for sure any mall parking lot will say you are wrong about the demise of the SUV.
Tahoe and Suburban sales are up significantly this year…this on a 6 year old design. They are massive profit centers for GM, and GM dominates the large traditional SUV segment. They aren’t going anywhere. GM is smart to keep them BOF, and they won’t mess them up, either…arguably, these are their best vehicles.
It’s also worth mentioning that the massive CUV’s that people are buying now don’t really do all that much better on mpg than these trucks do. For their size and capability, they are more efficient than people give them credit for.
Considering the amount of trucks and full size SUVs around here I’m amazed that manufacturers don’t have more premieres around here.
I saw a Tahoe hybrid out in the wild a week ago. The thing that gave it away was the 6″ gap between the front skirt and the ground. My wife gave me the “huh” look when I mentioned that the Tahoe parked beside us was a hybrid like our Prius. hehe
Well the location couldn’t be more perfect; everything’s bigger in Texas!
I wonder what kind of MPG the Tahoe gets running at Texas’s new 85 MPH speed limit. I would guess 11-12.
Hell I get 12.5 all day long at 80 with 35 tires 4:10 gearing and a 6.0 with a 4 speed, I would be surprised if these didnt get around 20-24 at that speed.
At last!
This is one unveiling I’ve been waiting for.
No doubt all the senators and congressmen (and women) will be keeping a close eye on the unveil. Here in DC you can’t turn around without seeing some kind of late model GM full-size SUV with limo tint and government plates. Funny thing is that most of them are the hybrid model.
“Funny thing is that most of them are the hybrid model”
Hybrids would seem the natural in DC, being that they’re “politically correct”, perhaps the only thing that comes close to being correct in DC
They’ll be right next to the deep fried butter booth.
Hey, don’t knock it til you try it!
The return of Hostess Twinkies will have me standing in line at another deep-fried booth.
Can GM finally get rid of the yards of hard plastic on the dash and door panels???? I do not want anything I regularly touch to be HARD plastic! You shouldn’t have to get a Escalade to get the same level of interior padding that a base Jeep Cherokee has. Even the Denali is acres of HARD plastic!!! Enough already!!!
How about IRS, the Expedition, Navigator and now the Durango have proven it works in big SUV’s and eliminates a lot of the body shudder and head toss found in the big GM SUV’s.
No need to downgrade the truck, it is in fact a truck, IRS creates problems that didnt exist with solid axles and answers a problem that doesn’t exist, you can not feel the solid axle on current fullsizes.
IRS is a step away from being unibody.
If it doesn’t have a solid axle out front then no need for one out back. We are talking SUV’s here…not the trucks.
It’s based off the same platform, its no different then putting a silverado on IRS, people buy them for their truck like abilities, among other things.
Why destroy a good thing, a solid axle is much more reliable than worrying about half shafts, and potential performance damage.
People do use these offroad, whether it be oil fields in Canada, long muddy/snowy roads, or 20 years when its worth more as a playtoy.
IRS does not cut it, no way, no how.
I have not heard of the big FORD SUV’s having reliability issues with the IRS. IRS can be built very tough but my point is most of these lux SUV’s never see severe use. Heavy duty maybe, severe duty rarely. The biggest advantage I ever see mentioned about the Ford product is the ride and drive that the IRS provides. Don’t even mention the Mercedes GL450 and its cousins. Incredible ride and drive but reliability of their air-suspension is directly proportional to the warranty. Not bashing GM just wondering. I am waiting on the new Chevy SS. That gets my heart pumping.
i have read refiews that say the GM fullsize SUVs w/solid rear axle still ride and handle better than the IRS Ford and Toyota SUVs. The only real advantage is you get a roomier 3rd row for the kids. The ride and handling of our Tahoe is phenominal for what it is and for towing give me the solid rear axle all day long, that is more important than the third row seating. GM hasn’t lost sight of what these trucks are meant and need to do, despite the fact that they became fashion statements when the economy was booming and gas was under $2 a gallon.
