Subaru is calling this the next trend in urban SUVs. That’s fine by us. Little is known about the technical specs of the Subaru Cross Sport, but it’s apparent that if the BRZ and the BMW M Coupe had a baby, this would be the offspring.

A person describing his BRZ shooting brake as a pretty sweet urban SUV is as likely a phenomenon as a person describing his FR-S as a pretty sweet Scion.
Just because a manufacturer calls its car something embarrassing doesn’t mean the buyers will follow.
Hopefully a non-“Outback” version will be available, in FR-S form if not in BRZ form.

Additional: Subaru designers I call on you to go against the grain and shave down the beltline so people can see. Come up with a sport package and you have a new SVX, market it as a WRX grown up little and watch it fly to we early PS Gran Turismo fans.
I like it, but I’m sure it’ll carry a price premium over the BRZ, and the BRZ is already pushing on price for me.
I like it except for that bloated a$$ end. Why can’t a modern car have a rear window you can see out of?

I love me some shooting brake style but I yearn for the day when every design is not butched up to mock 4WD off-roader looks. This would look a lot sweeter if it lost some bulk.
Yeah saying its “urban SUV” makes me fear if this ever hits the streets it will be too high in the air and have four doors. I’d LOVE a BRZ hatch, I think this (along with the lack of a turbo) is the biggest problem with FRS/BRZ twins. That car should have been a hatch to being with, like the older Toyota Celicas and Supras.
I see it more as a baby Ferrari FF. One-tenth the performance at one-twelfth the price!

Those wheel arch moldings look patently awful, as if penned by elementary-school kids with no regard for precision or cohesion. They don’t follow the shape of the wheel well. Naturally, they’ll probably make it to the production version, if there is one. I mean, just look at the XV Crosstrek.

That looks production ready to me, they might actually do this. And if they do this, then a 4-dr can’t be too far off too.
They can call it whatever they want, this is a hot hatch with RWD, and those wheel arches look optional as well to satisfy both camps: jack it up and call it a CUV, lower it and call it some variation of WRX.
I like it. I’ll take a RWD version for summer, and an AWD version for winter, please!
A friend who should know tells me this should be orderable as a rolling chassis the same as a brz so you could either make your own or pay someone else for whatever driveline and power plant you can fit. Assuming they even make it.
