As a teenager, I spent a fair amount of time at my local ghetto kung-fu school, punching people and being punched by people with no safety equipment beyond a set of mandatory “winter gloves”. It was fairly boring stuff, really, but it gave me a vague appreciation of the man known as “JCVD”. From Bloodsport all the way to the massively deconstructive yet strangely uplifting JCVD, the Belgian actor and martial artist has consistently delivered just the kind of stuff that 15-year-old brown belts want to see.
And now he’s delivered again.
Supposedly this is a video about Volvo trucks, but we all know it’s actually a video about our childhood. It’s not too late to live the dream, the commercial tells us. Jean-Claude is still out there doing it. And yeah, we all heard about the bouncer who supposedly beat him up. For the record, I don’t believe it.
Only the manliest of men can do the splits like that.
First: Fantastic feat!
Watched the video at work, so I didn’t listen to the audio. I was surprised that I didn’t see the “Don’t try this at home” disclaimer. I know they noted it was done by professionals on a closed course, however, in our litigious society they have to put this statement on the most ridiculously dangerous demonstrations.
“they” are not in “our” litigious society.
Finally a Volvo worth buying.
The drivers weren’t steering the trucks, Jean-Claude was pushing them apart with his feet.
Volvo trucks are really stepping up thier marketing. Anyone see the hamster video?
Great video, but there is room for a joke or two. Why so serious?
Chuck Zito, right?
cool video
Here is the documentary :

Why does it look like the whole video is shot in reverse?
I think they’re driving in reverse! Look at where the drivers face/eyes are pointing.
Doubtful they are driving in reverse. Looks like they were driving forward, but played the video in reverse. I think they would have had some issues going in reverse and keeping the trailers straight, especially when moving outwards. Makes much more sense that the video was played back in reverse.
Very effective visuals, but why in the world did they choose an Enya track for the end?
Because :”Who can say where the road goes ….”
Yeah, fine for the lyric, but the mood of the song is so wrong. Many better choices available:
Highway to Hell
The Long and Winding Road
On the Road Again
The list goes on and on.
Epic. Back when we were both young and sexy–well, young anyway, I literally bumped into JCVD while exiting a men’s room. He was very non-jerkish about it, stepped aside and held the door for me.
Jean Claude Grand Am.
As the not so proud owner of a GA, I am going to steal that.
This Volvo steering exercise is quite a bit more interesting
Not bad, but Chuck Norris could’ve pushed the two trucks together to make a Miata
Pretty bad-ass, actually. If those trucks just got another 4 or 5 inches further apart, he would have been in for a world of hurt. (Although not as much hurt as if they met in the middle.)
An impressive display not just of flexibility, but balance. Pretty impressive driving as well.
Can’t wait to see the behind the scenes video to see how much safety equipment was digitally removed, it could make the stunt look even more impressive.
