There’s been some speculation that after Ford’s big multi-continent reveal of the all-new 2015 Mustang that the new pony car will not be seen in public again till the New York Auto Show in the spring. As you can see from the photos taken today at Cobo Hall while the big Detroit show is being set up, the new Mustang be on display. Not just on display, Ford is making a big deal out of the new car and the nameplate’s 50th anniversary. A 1965 Mustang will be on display along with at least one concept car that was part of the original Mustang’s gestation and Ford has set up a Mustang memorabilia shop where attendees to the public part of the NAIAS will be able to buy personalized Mustang mementos. The most obvious sign that the ’15 Mustang will be on display was a 2015 Mustang convertible already on a turntable, under a sheet of protective plastic. An empty turntable nearby will probably hold the coupe.
It wasn’t on the show floor yet, but the fact that there was a sign on the wall of the Cadillac display that read, under its protective coating, “Elmiraj”, means that Cadillac’s highly praised show car, thought to be the basis of Cadillac’s anticipated large flagship sedan (or coupe, according to some reports) will join the new Mustang at the ’14 NAIAS.
Ronnie Schreiber edits Cars In Depth, a realistic perspective on cars & car culture and the original 3D car site. If you found this post worthwhile, you can get a parallax view at Cars In Depth. If the 3D thing freaks you out, don’t worry, all the photo and video players in use at the site have mono options. Thanks for reading – RJS

I hope they have them on floor in NYC. They had the Vette roped off at NYIAS but on floor at NYC Comic con. I understand these might be preproduction cars but a fair portion have their doors locked anyway.
For cripes sake Ford, please show a different color than that awful red one you keep dragging out. Not holding my breath though since that convertible looks to be the same one they just had at CES
Must be a dog owner.
Love it, love it, back to the drawing board Camero.
All ready there,
“The most obvious sign that the ’15 Mustang will be on display was a 2015 Mustang convertible already on a turntable, under a sheet of protective plastic. An empty turntable nearby will probably hold the coupe.”
This sounds highly speculative. We need proof.
“…the fact that there was a sign on the wall of the Cadillac display that read, under its protective coating, “Elmiraj”, means that Cadillac’s highly praised show car… will join the new Mustang at the ’14 NAIAS.”
Again with the blatant speculation. Jeez – will you auto writers ever stop with the crazy predictions?
Unless your having a bit of fun, what conclusion would, you, come too?
Sorry – I was kidding around. Ronnie built a pretty airtight case, I’d say. He should go into prosecution.
Nice looking ‘UL’ style wheels, Hope they make production.
The Elmiraj appearance, almost makes me want to book a FLT to Detroit. The weather gives me a pass.
Thanks Ronnie
What’s the point of a quick car that reports all of your antics to big brother?
Yes, indeed.
Welcome to Karosserie Knesalle where ww will build you the fast old car of your dreams, with no data links.
We have a stack of LS376-480/525Hp engines and 6-speed and auto trannies ready for deployment in your dream ride. Want something else? More Horsepower, no problem. We do Ford and Mopar crate engine installations. GM/Ford IRS, no problem. Chassis and suspension, brake upgrades, too. With paint and interior work a complete package.
Get rid of those tater-tale cars and drive ‘anonymously’ in something way beyond boring.
Recent builds> LS376 into Gen_2-3 RX7’s, Gen_ 1-2-3 ‘F’ bodies, Gen_3 Vettes, Several classic Merc’ SL’s and BMW E-9’s and E-24’s. M5 engines into E-36 and an E-39 Touring.
But, unfortunately, we are booked for this year. Get a head start on next year, book early.
As the boomers say, no lie. I am spec-ing a custom lap top and an option popped up to remove/delete the web cam & microphone. I almost selected that option until I realized that the worst thing various government agencies or Russian organized crime / former Putin colleagues would see is me barking orders at my kids or my wife staring at the Ann Taylor website.
“What’s the point of a quick car that reports all of your antics to big brother?”
Let me guess, as long as it’s a Toyota reporting it’s OK in your mind.

Yes because from the sudden acceleration problems we know that no one can read the data from Toyota computers so its all good.
First of all, Elmiraj is a repulsive name. Is that a town in Iraq? Here’s an idea: GM… why not reshow the Cadillac XLR with new sheetmetal? Sorry, move along, nothing new from GM Design.
Oh It’s named appropriately.
It’s like a mirage because what you see now is not what it’ll be like when it arrives.
That said, It’s somewhat telling that I had to go lookup which 3-letter car the XLR was (this naming trend needs to die) so at least the Elmiraj has something going for it.
That said, I actually like the idea behind the Elmiraj. It certainly has visual presence befitting the brand concept. I’m no fan of GM iron but I’d like to see this succeed.
^ this
Now appearing on the main stage, let’s give it up for Elmiraj!!!!
MK: So true.
And I’m no fan of the XLR; it’s just an easily recalled, recent Cadillac stretch-design-failure example. Fancy on top; “whatever-generic” underneath.
GM needs to hit a home run with a mainstream vehicle to be impressive, like the Fusion. This trickle-down thought that Cadillac sells Chevys doesn’t work for me.
Th XLR was built at the Bowling Green, KY (Corvette) plant. It had the Northstar engine. A hidden gem or should someone run from the Nortstar? I dunno.
The “underneath” of the XLR was a C6 ‘Vette, which is anything but “whatever-generic” in my book.
You’re lucky to be at a show like Detroit. In a couple of weeks is the Houston show which is just a dealer sponsored event. I’m going because I’m shopping for a new car and hopefully it will save me some trips to the dealers. No show, just business.
Where’s Z71Silvy (or whatever his name is) to tell us how ugly the new FORD Mustang is…..?
The script is broken…
~$ ./z71silvy
./z71silvy: line 1: hateford: command not found
~$
Given that it was the centerpiece of the Ford booth at CES this past week it’d be pretty silly if it wasn’t also at Detroit. I have to say that after seeing it in person I’m not so keen on the look from the front. Hopefully it’ll look a little more aggressive with a different grille.
“A 1965 Mustang will be on display along with at least one concept car that was part of the original Mustang’s gestation”
I’m assuming this means the first production Mustang and the 1962 concept car, both of which are normally on display in Dearborn. Can’t wait for this auto show. Gonna be a whole lotta awesome
