Following its global grand opening in India, Nissan’s low-cost Datsun brand will open its doors to the Russian market April 4 in Moscow.
Just Auto reports the launch marks the official introduction of the brand to the Russian market for the first time in its history, and, according to Nissan in a statement, “is particularly significant for the global expansion of the brand as it is a key market that offers Datsun great potential for growth.”
Consumers will be able to sign up for updates on Datsun’s Russian website, as well as view a live stream introduction of the brand on April 4, featuring a sedan made specifically for the market that still follows Datsun’s philosophy of bringing accessibility to consumers in emerging markets.

I wish I were as short as Ghosn. Modern sedans would still be attractive.
No, attractive is too strong…. tolerable.
Hah, I’ve never noticed that.
I think that’s why the kabunushi like him.
You think modern sedans are bad, try modern low-wing airplanes.
+1
Is he trying to look like Vladimir Putin ?
Well, he’s not shirtless and brandishing a rifle, so I’d say no.
Well, I’d imagine the new Datsuns will hold up better than Miloslav’s Lada.
Score for The Good People of the Russian Federation.
By the way, a most peculiar shade of Robin’s Egg Blue.
64% of Pintos were that colour. FACKT!

Already setting the bar very high.
Apparently their first Russian product is a rebadged Lada Granta. Why do they bother to sell rebadged Ladas in Russia? At least the Go only loans the platform from the Granta.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the company expenses “bribes to Russian mob types” on its’ profit and loss statements…
Not interesting at all. These expenses are called “planning, zoning, social responsibility, and environmental fees” nowadays, in Russia, U.S., and Mexico alike.
When I was working in Thailand they have a surcharge posted on the wall of the port authority. It had about 4 or 5 levels of payments related to how quickly you get your container. We paid. And they were always at the site when we arrived at 6:30AM or so.
Speaking of that, some major cities overseas ban heavy trucks between the hours of 6-9AM, and 3-6PM. Really seems to help rush hour. I think of that as I sit in traffic around Long Beach or Tacoma.
So, I guess we can forget about France and Japan being all aboard the “economic sanctions against Russia for (re)annexing Crimea” express then?
By April 4, “Russian Market” and “Crimean Market” may well be one and the same.
For some reason this car reminds me of Micra. Or is this cheappened out Micra with a different bumper?
It is based heavily on the Micra. The interiors of the two are very similar as well, just different (cheaper) radios/switchgear and gear shifter location mostly.
Almost shocked@ how they could make the Micra/March even cheaper.
I suppose waiting until February 8th for a marketing offensive would have been too far out?
For some strange reason that car looks incredibly attractive. Apparently it even has a flat floor! The Go Plus MPV would be a good replacement for my horrid Lada.
Actually, the interior IS rather roomy.
As an added bonus, you could fit at least three mail order wives in there.
Since many Americans are now working for third world like wages, I think a low cost brand of cars like Datsun and Dacia could be a huge success here.
Slightly off-topic, but they should bring the Micra to the States, once the next-gen Versa grows in size (inevitably).
