Talk about being fickle! On March 31, 2011, I posted an article to TTAC about MB-Tex guitar straps and wallets. In that article, there are pictures of five guitars, all made by the Heritage Guitar Company of Kalamazoo, MI. In the past three years, I’ve sold four of them. (The H-170 is still with me.) But I’ve purchased something like two dozen Couch straps since then. And now they have a fascinating new product for those of us who like Malaise accoutrements.

tesla-model-s-01

Announcements of businesses leaving regulation-happy and costly California or declining to do business in California are as common here in the Golden State as seeing a Prius blocking the left lane on the 405. This move is a bit of a surprise as California-based Tesla Motors said this morning that they have eliminated the state as a possible site for their $5-billion dollar battery factory, meaning only Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada remain in the running. As part of a partnership with the nice people at Road&Track, I’ll be writing an opinion piece for them once a week. Because, you know, I have opinions. Today’s rant recaps my attempt to help a friend buy an FR-S. Check it out. And before anybody asks — I stole the above photo from the R&T website, but it’s okay, because I’m the one driving.*

*It’s still not okay, probably.

40 - 1967 Lincoln Continental Down On the Junkyard - Picture courtesy of Murilee MartinThe 1961-1969 Lincoln Continental, with its suicide doors and slab sides, is recognized by most as the styling pinnacle of the Lincoln brand in the postwar era. Very nice early examples are worth pretty decent money, but a ’67 in beyond-basket-case condition is worth whatever scrap cars are fetching per ton. Here’s a thoroughly used-up ’67 that I found recently in a Denver wrecking yard. (Read More…)

It’s a shame about the 2014 Dodge Durango. Every car eventually gets wound down, but the Durango will be going out in its prime. If the way a vehicle drives is a high priority for you, it’s hard not to adore the Durango’s comportment. More tragic, the Durango has been the quiet way to get […]

Abraham Drimmer writes about moving from South Florida to Michigan in his Miata

“You need to sell your car”, my father told me, when I informed him of my imminent departure. I got the call in mid-October, I’d be leaving Miami for Ann Arbor on short notice. “That thing is going to be absolutely worthless in the snow”.

100,000 miles?

200,000 miles?

300,000 miles?

Everyone has a certain point with their daily driver when they would rather see money back in their pocket, instead of seeing more money fall out of their pocket.

Time marches on. That old clunker loses it’s endearing qualities and then, what do you do?

Well, the answer depends a lot on what type of vehicle you’re trying to sell… which is why I’m introducing Carmax’s wholesale operations into this write-up.

viper

In what is shaping up to be a public-relations disaster for Chrysler, the company has decided to crush as many as ninety-three first-generation and pre-production Vipers. Worst of all, they’re forcing a community college in Puget Sound to crush prototype #4, despite the fact that the school is still using it to train students. The question is: why?
