First Bentley, now Aston Martin wants an SUV for their lineup, with plans to team up with Daimler to make that vision reality.
Bloomberg reports the plan is related to a 5 percent stake in Aston Martin sold to Daimler last year in return for sharing technology with the English automaker, such as Mercedes AMG building V8 engines with Aston in the latter’s upcoming models.
Currently, talks are at the early stages, with signs of the new SUV not expected to come for another three years at the earliest. Aston is also debating whether or not to build a crossover using its own technology.
As for Aston overall, the automaker aims to sell 7,000 cars annually by 2016 by catering to demand in North American, South American and Asian markets.

I would think that a wagon would be a more-dignified and proper entry for Rolls-Royce…maybe something based on the 7-Series/Ghost/Wraith architecture…
Been done. Just search the internet for “val d’isere rolls royce”. they were coach-built by Jankel and had an extremely complicated hydraulic system to drive the front wheels in order to have AWD.
I like that premium AMC Eagle wagon you have there.

Aston’s first $ellout was Cygnet, so we should’t be surpriced they want to built ‘ingorant nouveau riche dream-SUV’ ..

Heritage and purity and all that aside, the worst thing about a potential Aston Martin SUV is that you just *know* they’ll halfassedly slap the same Aston grille on it, the way Porsche did with the Cayenne, and that it’ll look completely ridiculous.
It’s their grille. And it is one of the best looking grilles in the business. So why would putting it on one of their cars be “half assed”?
Isn’t that what automakers do with their grilles?

A Rolls-Royce/Bentley SUV makes perfect sense since they are about being comfortable to drive or chauffeured automobiles. SUV’s offer this perfectly. There is zero brand dilution for a Uber luxury SUV. An Aston one? Nope. One should always be true to themselves and Porsche understands this. Is the rapide even a success? I can see a Maserati one being successful since they do not have a deep heritage in the US to worry about. Enthusiasts bemoan the SUV, but if you look at the stats, women are the driving force behind these cars and it’s sadly a female world now (ironically feminism has been driving wages downward since the 70s). I applaud Tesla for offering a unique and new, independent product (albeit rigged & subsidized for success). We as consumers need more independent companies; too bad regulation has killed competition. What choices do we really have??

A-M and Mercedes-Benz? Move over, Mssrs Aufrecht and Melcher — I have a premonition about what “AMG” might come to mean in the future…
So this might be the first of Aston’s lineup to get a decent automatic transmission. Reviews don’t seem to stress the point, but the single-clutch gearbox in all their current offerings – only the non-S AMV8 is available with a manual right now – is a horrible, juddery, slippy, slow-responding thing.
Not sure what the sales need to be to cover the development cost on a program like this, but I’m sure they’ll have no trouble selling at least 750 of them a year even if it’s crap. If it’s good, double that.
