Appearing alongside the 2015 Infiniti QX80 at the 2014 New York Auto Show, the 2015 Q70 takes dead aim at the German performance and large sedan markets.
Though the Q70 takes its looks from the Q50, it won’t have the latter’s steer-by-wire system, nor Infiniti’s newest two-screen infotainment system. What it will have is a long-wheelbase variant dubbed the Q70L, which will boast 5.9 inches of rear-seat legroom and a choice of either the 3.7-liter V6 good for 330 horsepower or the 5.6-liter V8 pushing 416 horsepower; the standard model will have four more horsepower from the V8, as well as a hybrid option not available to the newer addition.
Safety systems for both models include lane-departure prevention, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, and Backup Collision Intervention.

I like Infiniti way more than Acura or Lexus.
I’m the exact opposite. Haven’t driven a Nissan car I’d take over a Honda, or mostly even a Toyota, since the 240 or something…
+1 (Bigtrucks)
Well, Honda has succeeded at one thing since the early 2000s: make it completely and unrelentingly impossible to like an Acura. I can’t even imagine what dealers have to do to try to push the RLX, ILX or RDX on a potential consumer.
Lexus at least seems to be trying to create vehicles people might desire…even if they come up short again and again.
When Acura came out with that beak of a grille a few years back, they became butt-ugly. And what’s up with just three letters for names? I have no IDX what a RLX is. How about giving an expensive car like this a real “name”? That goes for you too, Infiniti and Lexus.
You *must* use alphanumeric if you have any aspirations of succeeding in the $40 to $100 segment. Ze Germans have made it so.
First time in my life I agree with BigTruck. The interior is nice, all flowing like that. Breaks the usual. The back is nice without being so conservative like some cars seen today. The front could use a somewhat less angry vibe, but I like it.
The two sides of the dashboard do flow nicely, but those central bumps for the console are far from pretty.
True and the gear shift knob is one of the ugliest I’ve ever seen. At least it’s a little bit different. would really have to see it in person to see if it bothered me.
It has a nice feel in hand, and the short nature makes it less distracting, as it’s something which doesn’t need much attention in this sort of car.
That shifter has actually been in the M since 06.
Agreed.
When did the partnership between Infiniti and Chrysler/Fiat take place?
I’ve been under a rock, clearly.
“5.9 inches of rear-seat legroom”
I hope that’s not class-leading…
Probably a nod to the Chinese market, with very little incremental cost to bring it over to North America. I looked at it a few years ago but eliminated it from consideration after sitting in the back. The old car had 36″ of legroom, so the EWB version should come in at 42″, enough to embarrass bigger cars like the XTS and K900.
Whoosh.
@ imag: Brilliant! I am going to use that some day
@ WaftableTorque: Darkwing was referring to the typo (5.9 inches of rear seat legroom vs 59 inches of rear seat legroom)
lol at choosing a FWD econobox over a proper V8 RWD sedan.
I guess this is the closest replacement for the formally top range and Lexus competitor Q45.
This is just the M37/56 by another name and a mid-cycle refresh. Nothing to see here folks! Though I am one of the few who likes these cars and own a last gen M45.
I like em! Though I’m not a fan of the new butterfly wings tail lamps.
In a world where the Germans are now forcing customers into turbo-4s and 6s (with vinyl seats no less) at this price point, it’s so refreshing that Infiniti is staying the course and continuing to offer a good old-fashioned normally-aspirated big ass V8 (with real leather). Beautiful car too.
With cars like this around, BMW just doesn’t really move the needle for me any more (other than perhaps the Z4, which is still cool).
I just wish Infiniti would take the competitiveness to its logical conclusion and offer high-tuned versions to go against M and AMG models.
They did it was called IPL. The IPL was a joke.
The IPL still exists.
IPL – In Pursuit of Lexus
I thought Eau Rouge was to be their performance thing?
Or S. Which was a replacement for t. Which replaced a.
It’s not vinyl, it’s fake leather. They have a fancy name for it: alcantara.
I have nothing but praise for Nissan engineering. I almost pulled the trigger on a Q45 10 years ago. Having said that, these cars are terribly ugly. I am predisposed to give them a break, yet cannot. Too bad. I think Ghosn is an unappreciated rock star of a CEO. Find a new designer. Even BMW had to kick Bangle to the curb.
I agree, olddavid.
These cars just look ridiculous to me, be it the pinnacle of what Nissan has to offer or not.
Paint me conservative, but its Lexus for me.
Infinitis either look like a gigantic jelly bean or like a shoe that has been sat on by a fat guy. There is no middle ground. The interiors are usually wonderful aside from the ridiculous large plastic center consoles that intrude on the drivers right knee. A new design staff would help Infiniti tremendously.
Fit and finish has always been the weakest link for me with owning an Infiniti/Nissan product. The materials they use are crap and in a short time, pieces come lose or crack with rattles galore. I put up with it for almost 10 years owning a G35 Coupe. I’m officially retired from Infiniti ownership. The engines and transmissions are indestructible. Any search will bring up how poor the materials used by Infiniti/Nissan are as well as the lack of quality control for the interior assembly.
Google Infiniti FX dashboard bubbling!
Agreed! Both my wife and I love her FX35, but the interior bits are starting to look ratty. Interiors improved vastly on the next gen, but the exterior styling went from tasteful to comical. I’d like to blend the exterior of the first gen FX35 with the interior from the second gen…
Why does the highest model have lesser, older technology than the Q50? You would expect the latest and greatest to be on the top model.
Because it’s a refresh not a redesign.
Would rather have SRT charger. This just reeks chime ricer.
You put down every Japanese car article. This is non-shocking.
This should sell plenty of Geneses for Hyundai.
You speak the truth. The new Genesis looks better, warrantied better, and probably drives better. And it’s not a Infiniti.
I like it. Unlike another Infiniti (QX80)the mesh grille works on this car. Looks a lot better than the now bland Lexus GS.
It’s funny, Infiniti ALWAYS had bigger grilles (assuming they had one, RIP Q45) than Lexus. Now, they’re smaller and more restrained.
“… the standard model will have four more horsepower from the V8, as well as a hybrid option not available to the newer addition.”
what?
I can’t read it either.
I actually thought it more of as competition for the Caddy XLS. Price is similar.
Who?
Another ugly Infiniti, as usual. I wonder will it outsell Kia K900.
Well at least it doesn’t look as much like a bloated Maxima. The interior is still a bit of a mess though, and the fact that you can get the identical steering wheel in a Nissan Murano is a giant bag of fail.
Is the “wood with silver sparkles” available on every model now? And bravo to them for continuing with A) wood and B) real wood.
