Details are scant, but here are first photos of the 2015 Nissan Murano.
While the Rogue is based on the global X-Trail, the Murano will have a standard V6 engine and is focused on markets that favor larger crossovers, like Russia and China. Expect more details at the New York Auto Show, which starts Wednesday.

I understand that size, safety, and fuel economy dictate the basic shape of all cars made today. I get that convergent evolution means designs across manufacturers are all looking the same. And i get the need for some form of unique stylistic cue for your brand.
But Nissan’s fingernail lights are not the way to go. I guess this is why we’re doomed to Dodge’s with racetrack LEDs, Lexus’ with the pinch grill, the Acura beaknose shield, , and BMW angel eye lights.
I like the angel eye lights. I saw a brand new X5 the other day with lights on, and it looked tasteful!
+1 for the Angel Eyes. I also like the light display on the new CTS. I was trying to remember where I last saw them, and then it hit me. When I was a kid, at the movies, watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Looks attractive and consistent with the rest of the Nissan lineup. But the Goldilocks positioning is not working. If you have 1-2 kids, buy a Rouge. If you have 3-4 kids, a Pathfinder. Why would anyone buy Murano?
Edge and Venza have the same issue.

You mean a Rogue, don’t you? A Rouge is the quintessential beautician’s car, right?
Doesn’t help that the new performance thing from Infiniti seems to be called “Eau Rouge.”
You buy a Pathfinder if you want a square shape, you buy a Murano if you want a funky shape.
Highlander vs Venza same thing.
The Jeep Commander always had me puzzled, because (as far as I could tell) it didn’t do anything that a Grand Cherokee couldn’t do, except be more square.
But now the Pathfinder is also funky. Do not agree RE: Highlander/Venza. The Venza is a different sort of (lame) car/wagon. Agree on Commander, it was good at being more square, but lest we forget it was also a 7-seater.

+1 … Imagine -in an alternate time line- that Fiat/Chrysler is using its vast Sebring knowledge to modify the C700 concept into a competing convertible… what would suburbia look like then? I wonder who would figure out how to solve the structural rigidity failures of such a fundamentally flawed design?!
Imagine the glory of Nismo/SRT variants sliding out of control around corners as WetWipes and McDonalds happy meal boxes litter the highway behind them.
Does anyone have personal, first hand, experience with how well the Nissan CVT holds up in the Murano and other Nissan vehicles?
This only matters, of course, if a buyer keeps that Nissan CVT beyond the factory warranty coverage.
My brother-in-law has a first-gen Murano with just short of 100,000 miles and everything is working fine so far. He’s done some light towing with it (less than 2,000 pounds). He and his wife are both gentle drivers.
If your BIL’s Murano is still under 100,000 and he feels there is anything wrong with it transmission wise he should take it to a dealer immediately.
Depending on its age it still might fall under the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty.

The Murano is very popular in that area, an area where many of Asian descent reside. Of all the Asian brands, many think that Nissan Styling is currently tops.
My sister is NOT Asian, nor is her husband (he’s Canadian), but they are considering buying a new Murano for her.
My wife has an 08 Rogue which is a year they had some problems with the CVT. If I remember correctly, Nissan voluntarily upped their warranty on the tranny to 120k miles. I don’t know if they did it for other years or models.
Lots of Muranos here, but very few of them seem to be driven by Asians. The local Asian market is typically dominated by Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Subaru, and Audi/Merc/BMW. I’m the only Asian person I know out of hundreds in the area with a Nissan product (Infiniti).
The local pronunciation Des Moines is odd. The ‘s’ is silent in the first part, but not the second.
Yes. We never had any issues with our first-gen (2005) Murano SL in almost 200K miles.
No 1st-hand experience, but friend did have an ’05 Murano that he traded in late in ’12. No issues whatsoever with the engine or transmission. Furthermore, he quite liked the smoothness of the drivetrain. He traded it in to get something with a 3rd row. Even though it had been trouble-free, the CVT was a factor in his timing. It was *just* within the warranty mileage-wise.

IMO, the headlights are screwed up but the rest of the car is very attractive. Just like the Juke.

In this case it might be TOO light. That carpet color is simply not practical.
I have those colors in my M on the seats and floor, and while I am child and pet-less and don’t have an issue – for people with either of those I can see how it would be.
The interior is perfection, and I love the woodgrain.
I can’t lie: I like this.
It’s brazen, it’s different, it’s very Renault. Nissan’s designs were at their best in the past decade when they were heavily inspired by the French (2004 Maxima, 2002 Altima, 1st gen Murano), and they’re getting back to it. It’s not quite as clean, but it’s good.
Now, if only they could get a handle on their quality.
With both Jeep’s new Cherokee and this, I’m starting to hope that manufacturers are embracing polarizing designs (read: potentially ugly) rather than increased genericism.
That shiny popsicle-stick colored wood is just dreadful. And there is a gap size difference at the edge of dash wood where it meets the door. Right side is tighter than left.
But I like the exterior styling, it’s bold and that orange color still wears well. When you see gen1 Muranos in that color, they still look modern after all these years. It has the flat wheel arch surrounds like most their other (or all) Nissan/Infiniti models.
They’ll get in trouble with the directional wheels though.
Aside: I could easily picture a Citroen or Renault badge at the front.
I like the popsicle-stick woodgrain, It’s light and refreshing. I also like how it goes in between the armrests.
I don’t have a problem with any of the placement, just the shade and shine.
That spiderweb grille is interesting. Not seeing it elsewhere in their lineup.

The entire rear view looks to be totally non existent. Are they kidding!? I am supposed to be able to glance rear right to see if a car is in the blind spot!!?
Then you can tell the rear size glass is all fake. The real size is horribly small… you can see the outline.

Now I understand Nissan is about to replace all mirrors with cameras…but I still wish this would not happen.
With the upcoming legislation on backup cameras, rear visibility will be an afterthought.
It’s the Stan Sitwell of cars. Those headlights look clownish. Pity, as the interior was very nicely done. I guess if they can get people to approach the car from the side or the rear, they’ll sell some.

It looks good and I assume it’s going to another great seller. I just hope they don’t do anything as stupid like the Pathfinder and Infiniti JX. Nissan does very strange changes like killing off their very good Pathfinder 4X4.
Except that the old Pathfinder had an oversized engine that required premium fuel and was overkill for what most people needed. It seems like the new Pathfinder (which is basically a stretched Murano) is selling quite well.
Which engine do you mean, the 4.0 or the V8 (5.7?) one?

Well premium is recommended, not required (my mistake). But I’ve noticed a significant decrease in power and fuel-economy without it. The current car-based Pathfinder is far more appropriate for today’s market.
I very much agree. The truck-based model like my mom’s 08 is loud and roaring from the engine, gets poor fuel economy, and has an utterly rubbish interior. Hers is an SE with cloth.
FWIW, I told them it was not a good option and they wouldn’t be happy with such an old truck-based design (especially coming from a gen1 Highlander, which was developing engine sludge). Here we are two years later and I’m right.

The center grill which seems to be the new Nissan corporate theme on this, the new Rouge and proposed next generation Maxima looks like a tongue sticking out at you. If the 1st generation Subaru Tribeca front end was called the flying vagina can this be called the Miley?
