This will be the face of the last of the V8 interceptors for Ford’s Falcon, and that’s only the beginning.
Autoblog reports the Falcon’s new face is in line with the upcoming Mustang, as well as the Fusion and Mondeo. Unlike the front-drivers, however, the Falcon’s new look — beginning with the XR8 — will come with firepower in the form of a 5-liter supercharged V8, as well as a trio of six-cylinder engines and the EcoBoost four-pot.
Other touches include LED tail lamps meant to show off the Falcon’s backside to the Commodores trailing behind it, and headlamps with that are specific to the Australian sedan. Beyond this, the Falcon’s facelift is but a mid-cycle refresh for the record books.

Damned shame. Sweet car.
No idea why they ofer the small Ecoboost, no takers previously
You’re right, I think they’ve only sold about 150 Egoboost Falcon’s since the engines debut in ’07 if I remember correctly.
They’ve simply just invested so much in it they don’t want to pull the plug and waste it all, not that keeping it won’t do that anyway…
@thelaine – agreed. Why can’t we get this in North America? No one really give a rats ass about the Taurus.
That’s a good-looking car, although Ford subtly distorts vehicle proportions in these renders. Specifically, I think they compress the image vertically and stretch it horizontally – a sort of Poisson’s effect. The actual vehicles are always taller and narrower than the renders, which are also less attractive to my eyes.
Ludicrous squashing of a car’s proportions in ads is a nearly 100-year old tradition. Probably hit its peak/nadir with GM in the ’60s.
So, with this Falcon, that beautifully late-’90s greenhouse is even taller in real life?
You’re right, totally squished! Looks too small.

First XR since the ED in ’93 to not have the 4 headlight treatment. You think on their last hurrah they could give a little less of a shit just how much money the car will lose and think more of the heritage
I see two distinct headlamp areas on both sides though.
Kinda, previous XR’s have had the shape of the four lights outlined by the bodywork while other Falcons have had four lights in a single envelope like above. This meant that the outside shape of the XR headlights were different to all other Falcon headlights.
I’m sure Ford PR will say that whatever fairylight treatment they have given this model makes up for it.
not really, the AU was the last to have proper quad headlights. this is hardly breaking the theme the BA/FG has been running for 12 years
I can’t argue that this hasn’t been the trend for a while but at least the BA and FG tried to have different lights.
It’s the duck’s guts!
its a 4,000lb rwd Fusion
i prefer the just superceded model which looks like an Aston Martin
sadly only available as an inline six but oh what a six it is!
It currently comes in;
2.0L Turbo I4, (240hp/260lb.ft)
4.0L NA I6, (261/288)
4.0L Turbo I6 (362/393)
4.0L LPG I6, (266/302)
This new XR8 will presumably add the 5.0L Supercharged V8 from the old FPV that should be around 450hp and 420ft.lb.
That makes five engine options.
This should have been the new Taurus/CV replacement.
The real lose will be the end of the Ford Oz I6, which was a damn fine engine.
Ford needs to lose that face.
Another grille lifted from a Peterbilt. Thanks Eurotrash.
Will Lincoln ever develop a car like this off a stretched ’15 Mustang platform?
Remove the spoiler, redo the hood with no bulge, put a Lincoln grill on it and prest-chango! The New Lincoln Zephyr. With the Aussie-Crazy in a Very Good Way V-8 optional.
They are Ford Australia testing a Lincoln for China
I guess Road Warrior/Mad Max jokes are passé?
That looks awful. Way to send it out with a ugly refresh Ford.
DAYUM!
