Does anyone remember the days when international auto shows had a three month lead time for appearing in printed buff books? I’m not sure what’s worse: waiting for a few grainy shots and 50 word blurbs, or having everything revealed beforehand in a high-stakes game of PR one-upmanship and slow reveals.
TTAC will have live coverage of the 2014 Paris reveals, even if many of them have been, well, revealed early. Here’s what to expect when the show kicks off on Thursday, October 2nd.
- Audi TT Roadster: An open-roof version of Audi’s MQB-based sports car.
- Audi TT Sportback concept: Not content with keeping the TT a coupe, Audi will show a 4-door TT concept.
- BMW X6: second generation model is bigger, wider, taller, uses carryover platform.
- Citroën C4 Cactus Airflow 2L concept: Citroen’s Cactus manages 117 mpg thanks to aero tweaks and an ultra-efficient powertrain.
- Ferrari 458 Speciale A: A droptop 458 Speciale, painted an awful yellow hue.
- Fiat 500X: A Jeep Renegade in Armani Exchange clothing.
- Honda Civic Type R Concept: A veiled preview of the first turbocharged Type-R.
- Infiniti Q80 Infiniti’s “1+1+1+1” sedan, which is really more like a 2+2.
- Jaguar XE sedan: First public showing of Jag’s 3-Series fighter.
- Kia Sorento: Kia’s next generation compact CUV will debut, but won’t hit showrooms until MY 2016.
- Land Rover Discovery Sport: Land Rover’s newest small crossover.
- Mazda MX-5: We’ll finally learn technical specs for Mazda’s newest sports car.
- Mercedes-AMG GT: AMG’s newest flagship sports car.
- Mini 5-door: A replacement for the Clubman, the biggest Mini will sport a proper set of rear doors.
- Toyota C-HR concept: Toyota throws its hat into the small crossover ring.
- Volkswagen Golf Alltrack: VW’s Outback debuts with diesels and lots of cladding
- Volkswagen Passat: An all-new Passat, based on MQB with a smaller footprint and a plug-in variant
- Volkswagen Polo GTI: More power to better compete with the Ford Fiesta ST
- Volvo XC90: Volvo’s do-or-die crossover.

The Sorrento is midsize, not compact. Sportage is the littler Kia.
The current Sorento (like the Santa Fe Sport) is classified as a compact – altho is a really a “tweener” in size.
The Sportage is also a bit smaller than most of the compact CUVs.
The new Sorento has grown to the size of the midsize Santa Fe (no indication that Kia will be offering a SWB and LWB Sorento) and the next Sportage should grow some.
Not content with keeping the TT a coupe, Audi will show a 4-door TT concept.
WTF? This is so stupid!
I read this like mad libs:
Not content with keeping the [any model] a [any class of vehicle], [random OEM] will show a [totally different class of vehicle] concept.
So:
Not content with the MUSTANG (as) a PONY CAR, FORD will show a PICKUP concept.
I like the idea. The A4 is boring and old. This TT Sportback sounds like everything the A4 should be… exciting, sporty, luxurious, striking, in all trims. Audi’s marketing doublespeak for it is stupid but I think the concept is sound.
The Ferrari is something though. Up to 600 hp (as if it needed that). With incomparable driveability. And yes, don’t know how many more zeros in the bill than some “contenders”. Derek, I sort of liked that yellow!
The main thing about this Salon and the reason I’m looking forward to it is that there are many interesting new cars and concepts from the mainstream Euro makes. If possible, concentrate on some of those and don’t make it a coverage of endless and mindless Audi and BMW variants.
Where’s the Lincoln MKL, MKP, and MKQ? There are still plenty of letters left.
Three letters are out. The MK6 is due out in 2026 with an all new 4 cylinder that will be turbo charged to give it the power of a v6 while keeping the fuel efficiency of a v6.
So they’re following Cadillac? I thought Mark Fields wanted to SAVE Lincoln.
If the Golf Alltrack drives anything like a GTI it will be damn sweet and could take some Outback shares away from Subaru.
Wolfsburg is utterly fascinated and confused by the success of Subaru in North America. If Volkswagen can recapture their previous marketing magic (usurped by the Subaru folks, IMO), a Golf and Passat Alltrack would probably be very successful against Subaru here in the Americas. The MQB Golf is outstanding, and if VW were smart they would start building the MQB Passat here…yesterday.
Include coverage of the Renault Espace, please. The death of the original minivan, or one of the originals, will be showcased in Paris. Deep sigh.
The French will have strong exhibitions at the Salon. Make sure your reporter at least passes by. I at least will read everyone as will the larger part of TTAC’s international readers.
Very well said. For once show some Renaults, Peugeots and Citroëns here instead of the very usual (and mostly boring) suspects. Peugeot seems to be back on track with a beautiful and fresh line of B-, C- and D-segment cars.
I’ve read about the new Renault Espace last week, they call it a crossover, not an MPV~minivan. I’ve also read that DS will become a separate PSA brand. The DS models are now the high-end Citroëns, like the Citroën DS5.
I’ll be in Paris in June next year for the Paris Air Show. This is also a great show, East meets West.
One of my plans in retirement is to make it to all of the major international auto shows.
Until then I’ll just dream of the car shows and be happy with the Air Shows.
