While researching Ssangyong, I came across this photo of a true unicorn – a brown, compact pickup truck.
The Actyon is Ssangyong’s version of a crew cab compact truck that has become so popular in Australia. Yes, it has a diesel and an available 6-speed manual transmission.

BB wont buy until its about 3 grand, with no damage, <100k miles, and full maintenance logs.
Damn right we won’t!
Don’t forget wagon version and Hellcat option.
This is a separate model, called the Actyon Sports. There was also Musso Sports version of the Musso.
I see someone knows their Korean vehicles! I live here and see these all the time. They’re weird looking, like most Ssangyong vehicles, minus the Chairman W.
Brown?
Popular in Australia?
They are a niche vehicle.
SsangYong sold 104 vehicles in August this year. Chrysler sold 111 and Dodge sold 129. Fiat is the surprise with 557. Jeep 2628.
That means they have a market here of approximately 1 200 per year.
It came out at number 32 in the list of manufacturers for sales.
That’s great when a car maker can survive on so few vehicles.
I hope these links work.

You misread. He was referring to the crew cab compact truck segment being popular in Aus… not that the Sangyong was popular in Aus.
@Quentin,
Ta,
Popular, is not a word I would use, they maybe have sold more of that model, but they are as rare as hens teeth in Australia
Honestly the bed is a little short for me. Maybe 7ft to start
I don’t think there’s ever been a 4-door compact pickup, at least in the US, with a bed longer than 6 feet. In fact, I’m pretty sure we haven’t had any compact with a 7 foot bed since the late 2000s.
@Chocolatedeath,
Don’t buy it.
Buy a midsizer like this with an 8′ bed, 6′ 4″ wide.

Or a V8 diesel ute like this.

I really like that tiptop equipment tray with the rack on top. Very very nice.
….and no need for a stepladder to put things into the box.
I’ll take a F250, or F350 with 6.7L V8 Diesel, and a tipping flat bed over that. Probably will save a good amount money too.
Those 70 series are damn expensive!
@Onus,
Expensive for a 76 Series ute?
You don’t get them, or ever will with the chicken tax.
Looking at the cost difference for cars I do think in the US a 76 Series would cost around the $40k mark, which is expensive for you guys I suppose.
But this will last a lot longer.
It’s hardly the Chicken tax that would stand in the way of a crude ’70s deathtrap. But $40K isn’t “expensive” for the US market. “Expensive” for that thing, yes!
Vulpine’s dream car.
I live in Colombia and am actually in the car business here. (Mazda/Volvo dealerships) There are lots of SSanyong´s on the market here. They are almost without question the ugliest cars I´ve seen in my life. I think only the Aztec succeeds in being uglier. Plus, they must have the worst depreciation known to man. When we have a customer who needs to sell a Ssangyong so that they can buy a new car, we know that the deal isn´t going to happen because they won´t be able to sell their old one and lord knows we aren´t going to trade it in.
I don’t like brown cars.
There, I said it!
It looks like a pickup truck version of the Kyron SUV.
IIRC the SSangyong, Samsung and a few other unknown to the US were planned to fill in at Saturn when Penske tried to buy the dead brand from GM.
With that slope angle on the windshield, the driver adjusts the rear-view mirror by putting his hand up just behind his ear.
Best part, No chicken tax on this baby!
Offer it with a station wagon option, and it’ll sell like hotcakes.
’nuff said.
There’s a whole fleet of these for sale on eBay as “gliders” (no engine/trans installed) for 4 grand each. 2008 model year, unused, parked in California for the duration, from a failed electric conversion program.
Will a GM LS fit? Supposedly designed for Mercedes 4 cyl diesel.

Turbo diesel? Sounds perfect for me… the one in the picture is WAY better looking then the mess shown on eBay.
Pretty popular in the used market in Cambodia as well, though most of those I’ve seen are too old to have the updated, more mainstream front fascia.
This is one I saw last week: https://flic.kr/p/pdnAkC
