Right now, the only Alfa Romeo anyone in the United States can buy is the 4C, a model one of our B&B recently talked about in their ownership AMA. By next June, though, a sedan could be on the showroom floor, as well.
Automotive News Europe reports the sedan — codenamed 952 — will be the successor to the 159, and will be positioned between the BMW 3 and 5 series. As for the name, it was to have been dubbed the Giulia when it was expected to go on sale this year, but will have a new name instead.
The new sedan is part of eight models set to help build up Alfa Romeo’s portfolio by 2018, leading field that will include a midsize SUV and a large flagship sedan. The portfolio expansion is part of an overall plan to boost the brand’s sales, with a goal of 400,000 sold annually by 2018, and a jump from nil to 150,000/year in the North American market in the same period.
As for the 4C, the first few U.S.-bound models will sell for $70,000 once they leave the container dock, while the $55,000 base model will follow later. Those cars will head for 84 Fiat and Maserati dealers in the U.S. and Canada, a number that will expand to 200 by the end of 2015.
Lovely car that one in the picture. And relatively cheap nowadays…
So anybody know what this car is going to look like, any spy shots online?
The 159 was sexy but from certain angles it looks like an angry Mitsubishi Lancer.
That is such a put down. I would like you to apologize for such a slanderous libelous statement.
The 159 is the epitome of mass market Italian automotive design for the era it was built in. It sir is an original Italian design that will be known to the ages for the beautiful piece of art it was designed to be. And you sir has the nerve to compare this original art to a economy car built built by a second rate Japanese car company.
The only Japanese car company to not be thought of highly period. A company who only has one vehicle that is capable of saving face. A company people ask, “why do they still sell in America?” A company that people ask the question of why did you buy that. A company that makes new owners defend their purchase decision. And you have the nerve to compare the beautiful 159 to something made by that company.
I demand an apology at once.
That and the fact the 159 was introduced in 2004. The first would be Mitsubish Lancer concept didn’t come out until the following year. And then that Lancer wasn’t introduced until three years later in 2007.
This is not a post defending Alfa reliability. That would be impossible.
But an apology is still required for making such a bold denigration of 159’s beauty.
Mr. Orange is like Guile’s theme, it goes with anything.
How dare you.
I demand an immediate apology for comparing this to any Mitsubishi. And then you have gall to compare this to a Chrysler Sebring, a Fart, and to make it all worse a lackluster, boring, derivative Suzuki. Them sir are fighting words. You should immediately withdraw your statement and ask for forgiveness for your vile insulting remark.
Obviously it appears the originality and beauty of the 1986 Cadillac Cimarron is lost on you. And I demand that you learn the wrongs of your ways before you besmirch and defile the beauty of the J-car with such terse and unsavory comparisons in the future. If only you Americans would you truly grasp the character and charm of such a vehicle before you sink into abject smirks and insults on this vehicle.
Only if duels had not been outlawed.
YES! I was trying to figure out what the heck it looked similar too. Angry Evo.
The rear 3/4 view almost looks like a early 2000’s Chrysler Sebring sedan, with a little bit of Dart and Suzuki Esteem thrown into the profile and rear door window c pillar area.
How dare you.

Mr Orange
Hope you’re kidding, or else you need some serious help :)
I fart in your general direction.
haha, you’re a special kind of lunatic. I respect that.
This thing isn’t beautiful or elegant. It kind of looks like a bunch of different cars put together.
Obviously looks are very very subjective. Should be interesting to see if they can sell them here in the US.
I quote the great Monty Python and you label me a lunatic.
yus. I wold not mind buying a new alfa to replace the s4 even if it is slower :D
Sure, it sounds promising now… but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find this won’t be anything more than an Alfa-badged Fiatsler 200.
You’ve got it backwards. The Dart and 200 are based on the Alfa. All the Chrysler designers are working on Jeep, to keep the Italian designers from turning it into a chick car.
The key word is “unveiled”. Production maybe by the end of 2015. US showrooms maybe in 2016. Need to read those ANE articles a little bit more carefully!
A completely new platform, four new engines, multiple new models, and everything done on Marchionne’s shoe-string product development budget. It’s a challenging project, no doubt about it.
SM will never admit it, but they will need a 10-year bumper to bumper warranty, free service for 4+ years included in the sale.
I can’t wait.
Are they going to sell these at the mall, like the Fiats?
(smart guys: minimal capital investment, quick painless exit if brand fails)
The Giulia? Sorry, my pronunciation may be incorrect but it immediately reminds me of Adam Sandler’s Wedding Singer. Would those who buy one of these then name it Julia?
