The Ford F-150 won’t be the only new model sporting an aluminum body: the Cadillac CT6 — which won’t look much like the Elmiraj concept, alas — will enter production with the metal, as well.
Automobile reports the body will keep the CT6 — slotted above the CTS but below the Mercedes S-Class in size — around 3,700 to 4,100 pounds in weight. The strategy would put the upcoming sedan in the same weight class as the Mercedes CLS-Class, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and Audi A7.
As for power, the CT6 will be motivated by a new overhead-cam family back in development by General Motors, with four- and six-cylinder models expected to join the planned V8 variant that was shelved around the time of the 2009 bankruptcy.
Unfortunately, the future flagship — until the CT9 turns up later down the road, anyway — won’t be attending the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, and will likely take the ramp at Geneva, New York or Frankfurt later in the year. The CT6 is expected in showrooms just after the start of the 2016 model year.
Still have no clue what a “CT6” or a “CT9” is. We could do with some actual names.
Names? Nonsense!
We don’t need any car guys either, just ask the Cadillac team as they pack up to move to NYC.
As New York goes, so goes the, heyyyyy, waitaminute!?!
As goes Brooklyn, so goes Staten Island.
There are still plenty of “car guys” working on Cadillacs on the product side, as far as I can tell. The point of that remark was that they think they need to get away from Detroit-insider thinking around Cadillac’s marketing (not product), because they think Detroit insiders don’t understand how to market or position a global luxury brand, which might seem insulting to some in Motown but seems pretty obvious if you look at Cadillac’s trajectory over the last 20 (or 40) years.
Saw an ad by Lincoln for new SUV,a MKsomething and the voice-over actually says it’s the new Navigator!
You misheard they add is for the MKZ, new Navigator and the “first ever MKC”
At least Lincoln’s product line is squared with a successful business plan.
I’ve seen some renderings of this car. Although it looks big (as in old Cadillac big) from what I can see, this seems like it would be a much needed car for Cadillac. The all important question? Cost. I’ve read around $75k. That’s going to be some tough competition.
Cadillac will be competitive with the Mercedes if it delivers on product. The recipe for success in this class is providing an ultra-comfortable, spacious package with exceptional build quality and high performance. That’s about it. Cadillac cannot afford to cut product anywhere and obtain success.
It’s slightly smaller than an S-Class. It’ll be equipped similarly and priced a bit lower; the intent is to have this be the Cadillac-of-Cadillacs while still leaving room for an even bigger model (think 600 Pullman-sized, and think aimed-at-Chinese-tycoons-who-are-bored-with-German-cars) a few years down the road. It’ll debut at the New York show in early April. Cadillac and its new ad agency are preparing a major new ad campaign that will debut at about the same time, and the timing isn’t coincidence.
There’s zero chance that they’ll unveil a major new Cadillac in Europe any time soon. Europe isn’t a major part of their plan in the near-term (long-term = different story).
It’s been leaked that Johan de Nysschen & Melody Lee are promising that this new CT6 will “be the Cadillac of wannabe Mercedes Benz, BMW & Lexus” and akin to the Zune to their iPod.
Its been leaked, DW, that the gentleman featured as your avatar drives (and loves) an Escalade.
Touche!
LOL, Lexus.
Will the deluxe model be the CT-Alpha-6?
Eeeeee!
I squeal in delight at your Wrath of Kahn meme.
Wrath of a narrow German boat?
Heh.. that didn’t penetrate yesterday but after some sleep I see it now.
The squatters have moved on and taken my wife with them for a week. It’s just me, the cats and Immodium. Our basement den needs some guitar noise and I’m off for two weeks.
*Pop* bzzzzzzzzz..
Party time
I’m sure the only thing people will care about is whether this thing comes with length.
That and giant chrome insignia on the grill.
I am not fond of the CT nomenclature, but I think the should have called it the CT7 or CT8 to more align with BMW/Audi, if they were going to use it. CT6 sounds like a 5-Series or A6 competitor. Not the name of a “flagship” model. I know they wanted some “room” to add future top end models. Better yet would have been an actual name, but what am I thinking?
I am looking forward to this car. I hope that the CT6 is everything that they’ve promised. The CTS-V is the first non-german car to catch my eye. So it appears that Cadillac is on the right track. I don’t think it matters one bit whether they call it a CT-something or a name.
DOA
Agreed. This is not what Cadillac needs now.
A lightweight aluminum body is something which matters, that you don’t get on a loaded Malibu.
Cool!
Breaking News – Melody Lee in SoHo has announced any woman purchasing or leasing a new Cadillac in 2015 receives two complimentary pairs of Jimmy Choos shoes, a $200 Lululemon gift certificate & a Dean & DeLuca ‘Graze’ basket.
snarky comment rating = “meh-minus”
this is why I come to TTAC.
“CTS but below the Mercedes S-Class in size”
So something larger than a CTS but smaller than S-Class. We HAD THIS already, and it was called the STS. A fine RWD/AWD large car, let down by a crap interior.
