It’s been a long time coming: Cadillac’s third-gen CTS-V will hit the ramp at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
Autoblog reports the high-performance premium sedan will bow January 13, though little else was mentioned at this time.
The previous CTS-V threw down against the likes of the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63, thanks to a detuned 6.2-liter V8 lifted from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The publication speculates Cadillac could use that play again, with the assist coming from the 650-horsepower supercharged V8 under the hood of the Corvette Stingray Z06.

A CTS-V vs 300 Hellcat rivalry would be entertaining.
What you will hear is this: To small interior. To cheap interior. Over priced for what it is. GM has failed again…and so on and so on.

The engine rocks, and when they come off lease in 3 years, it’ll be way cheaper than the same vintage M5. Other than that, if you were buying this with your own money, would you pull the trigger on one tomorrow?
Bloody shame the Germans don’t have the sense to benchmark their own chassis’ from an era where they were still at least decent…..
I understand it and appreciate it. The question I would ask is does Cadillac’s new marketing team understand it or will they just let it wither on the vine while scratching their hipster heads while thinking, ew, too “murican”
It doesn’t matter what the marketing department does with these. The Corvette and LS/LT engine modder crowd will snap these up.
Of course and what an opportunity for a savvy marketing department to capitalize on the real performance aspect of Cadillac instead of chasing imaginary brand cachet
Nice hot rod, and the styling is growing on me. But at $75,000 it is up against some stiff competition. They are going to need all that NYC branding/marketing stuff to move these.
Melody Lee & Johann de Man are telling Publicis to come up with a Christmas Party ad featuring the CTS-V where the swinger guests donned in masquerade masks ala Eyes Wide Shut pull up to the Orgy House festooned in Christmas lights in their various Cadillacs, including V-Sports and the CTS-V.
Better that house than Bob Bashara’s basement…

I was thinking about seeing it, my allergic reaction to Ben Affleck notwithstanding.
I don’t like him either, but it is certainly the best and most intense movie I’ve seen this year. It takes its time and drags you in pretty well. Definitely the best acting I’ve seen him do, as well.
He and the wife share the screen time pretty well, so it’s not all about watching him.
Affleck as Batman ought to be interesting, but then I thought Micheal Keaton was great, so what do I know

Keaton was awful. Bale was awful (as Barman) even though Dark Knight & Dark Knight Rises were both great (thanks to Ledger)/good (thanks to Hardy) respectively (despite Christian Bale, not due to him)…

Bale made a great Barman, but I agree he was lacking at Batman.
Incidentally when they filmed the final movie here, Bale rented a extremely swanky house about a mile from where I live for the six or eight weeks he filmed here we heard for 10K/mo. His only condition was absolute secrecy which was achieved, at least among us handsome locals.

Netflix should have it. Between it and bit-torrent I stopped buying DVDs years ago.
The loss of my DVDs pushed me over the edge to just Netflix/Amazon Prime/stream everything. Except for Winnie the Pooh. As a father, I will keep that BluRay handy. God bless that bear.
I kinda like Winnie the Pooh myself since the characters were inoffensive, although all the sexual innuendo in even the films we watched makes me skeptical on what children see today. I feel like if I had children it would be endless reruns of Mister Rodger’s Neighborhood only.

This is not a “Cadillac.”
This is GM engaged in a Power Point exercise born of one executives decision, some time ago, likely in a pre-BK setting in some GM conference room, that Cadillac needs to chase the “then” performance of BMW’s M division if it wanted to have credibility.
So, Cadillac threw the plush ride, bold/distinctive American styling, spacious interior (including back seat) & large trunk OUT WITH THE ENTIRE BATH TUB, in an attempt to catch BMW’s performance division.
And now?…
…now the Dodge Challenger with any of its available V8s is more Cadillac than Cadillac.

I’m so disgusted with Clack-i-Lack that for the first time, I’ll admit I’d rather have a big, comfy Lincoln MKS, warts and all, than any new Cadillac.

I’d take an MKS too or an MY12 Zephyr, but it still burns me I can’t get a Lincoln I can see out of after MY12. Loads of future fail in store for those owners when all the doodads and workarounds start to break.
I caught Steve Lang’s article yesterday on the site that shall not be named (and that I rarely visit) about hittin’ em where they ain’t in terms of the depreciation the MKS and (pre-2014) MKZ (with the pre-2013 MKZ being better than the current one), and how they have comfy seats, are reasonably hushed, ride well enough, and have decent leather and niceties, plus lots of room.
They don’t squeeze your genitalia, rattle your teeth, require monthly repairs & destroy your retirement account like Art & Science “we’re a brand, not an automaker” Melody Lee/Johann de “Come at me, brah!” on Facebook Cadillacs do.
As someone who champions CPO Lincolns as a value purchase, I was going to point that article out as well. 2012MY MKZs are a great buy right now because they are all coming off lease. The MkT is always a great CPO buy if you can live with the styling. I’d really think about getting a CPO MKS if I wasn’t so happy with my C-Max.
My parents took my recommendation, and so should other people. Their 2012 Lincoln MKZ AWD cost them under $20K and it had around 20K miles. They could have picked one up for under $15K if my mother didn’t want Nav, a backup camera, and AWD.

Very true. You are the OG when it comes to the MKZephyr.
I am an advocate of the Lincoln CPO program, regardless of model. You are an advocate of the 09-12 MKZ/Fusion as your used car lock of the week on a regular basis.
My recommendation to them was based on your recommendation for that specific model, my experience with the CPO program, and other infomation gathered here (Danio has also talked about the positives of the second gen Fusion/MKZ).

You’re making me feel a little less crazy. The woman who parks next to me in my building has a Mercury Milan of that generation that she got CPO. Ignoring the disclaimer that my experience with it is limited solely to looking through the side windows, my suspicion has been that she got a great price on it and that is was a lot of car for the money.

Cadillac and its GM Power Point handlers have very much richly & deservedly earned my hatred and the hatred of many, many others.
Cadillac should re-named Pontiac, and all their cars should receive an across the board 35% price cut off MSRP.
At least then, there would be a more sane case (although still not entirely logical one) for its existence.

Cars magazines always love this car and yet perhaps not surprisingly, I rarely see them on the road. I guess I’m glad GM can and is making this car, but I wonder how many I’ll actually see.

The Cadillacs are nice to look at, but when you get in one at an auto show and then get in a 5 series, it’s not close. On paper, the CTS is a 1/2 size smaller, but feels a full size smaller. It’s harder to get in and out of the CTS for those of us with long torsos and ‘cozy’ would be a nice way of describing the CTS interior. It felt no more or less roomy than a 3 series, a car that is supposedly a 1/2 size smaller.
Maybe it’s just packaging, but I went from being interested in a CTS to being disappointed with it.

Pretty sure the picture is of the previous gen CTS-V, although I don’t argue your comments. The new CTS-V has a more pronounced (obnoxious) grill and accentuated creases. The logo has also changed and grown larger (obnoxious), although personally I do not like the new version as much.
I kind of wish they’d use the standard CTS face with some discrete “V” badging. I think it would come off better

All this GM hate thing is pretty tired. If you like or hate the styling, fine, comment accordingly, but until you actually see one up close and sit in it to try it out for size, the juvenile hate stuff is just that – juvenile, and I don’t think anyone on here is still in high school!
Me? I wouldn’t buy a Cadillac – it’s not my style as I tend to be a Chevy guy, but over the years, any brand loyalty I used to have has changed. I’ve owned Chrysler products, AMC, Ford, Honda and for the last 10.5 years, 2 Chevys. I’ve had no complaints with them, either.
Right now, if I had to buy a new car, I’d be looking at all the mid-sizers plus the new Toyota Corolla, as I was seriously impressed with it at our auto show early this year.
It’s less hate and more Cadillac has lost its way/identity/soul/raison d’être in a very bad way.

Well, I don’t know about Cadillac “losing its way” as much as there is no longer much of a market for land barges as that applies to traditional cars – it’s all big SUVs & crossovers now.
If you want a big Buick, you have to buy an Enclave. Likewise Cadillac – you are buying essentially a truck in the Escalade, which to me is a joke, but they manage to pull it off.
I agree Cadillac needs its own identity – platforms and vehicles unique to Cadillac and not merely rebadged Chevys. That goes for all the touchy-feely stuff as well, ie; real chromed metal knobs, switches and interior goodies, not to mention durable upholstery, not just padded vinyl.
I suppose that’s not going to happen, so they are going after the BMW/Lexus crowd, using the higher performance sports coupe/sedan angle. Hope they manage it.

Oh yeah, a 6 cylinder base level 2015 Hyundai Genesis is 38k MSRP and 34k with some haggling, and is better built, better trimmed, more durable, more reliable, more comfortable, and overall just better than any 50k to 70k CadiScrap.
I would also take a genesis over any current caddy, even if they were the same price.
I’m hoping for a cts-v hellcat showdown here or at another webzine. Ford is missing the party. Stuff that GT500 motor in something with a back seat that has it’s own doors.
As long as the 650HP ‘Z06 engine, also comes with the option of the manual Z06 tranny, or a “real” auto, Caddy could very well be on to something….
I wonder how many here have actually driven one of these …… the previous version, that is. From a car guy for decades and having wheeled machinery from drag cars, AMG Hammers, 288 GTOs, Porsche 959s, etc., etc., the V Series CTS is an awesome machine. It need not apologize to anyone as it speaks competently for itself. That is not to say it is an everyday practical vehicle for those who give a rat’s ass about fuel economy and insurance costs. It is what it is, a wonderful exercise in building a thrill seeking 4 dr. sedan..
Fifteen years ago it would be hard to imagine America producing world-class vehicles like the, Hellcat, CTS-V, Mustang, and Stingray. Interior quality is the only area where Detroit still lags a little, and even in this area things are not all that bad.
Maybe America is producing it best cars since the 30’s to compensate for losing its manned space program. I certainly have more pride in the current crop of American cars than are declining space program, which I consider a modern-day American tragedy.
