Turns out Toyota had one more trick up its sleeve for the 2016 Tacoma, planning to add a TRD Pro model alongside the rest of the family.
According to AutoGuide, Toyota Motor Sales VP of Marketing Jack Hollis confirmed the plans with our sister publication during the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The current Tacoma TRD Pro uses Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs, TRD exhaust, and an assortment of cosmetic upgrades to make its presence in Baja Valley felt by all. Whether the 2016 Tacoma TRD Pro will be more hardy remains a mystery for now.
That said, the new TRD Pro model won’t be available just yet. Hollis says to expect it in 2016 at the earliest.

The only person I know who has a Tacoma absolutely loves it. Loves it more than anyone else I know regarding any vehicle, to the level that he’d probably fix a $20K repair bill. His is about a 2005.
Totally agreed- I know a couple of colleagues that are absolutely obsessed with their Tacoma. They swear they’ll never drive anything else. I kind of understand because I feel quite the same about my 4Runner…
Come on Toyota, just make the TOYOTA block script grille an option on all your trucks!
If Toyota steps up and provides a warrantied supercharger kit for the Tacoma someone should call a penalty, because for GM this is “piling on” . Thanks to GM for coming out tho :)
They do if installed at the time you purchase the truck. Most manufacturers will roll factory accessories into the factory warranty if installed at time of purchase of a new car. The TRD supercharger has a 1 year warranty if installed after vehicle purchase on all the previous engines if my memory is correct.
The Tacoma in stock trim is a competent platform to build an off-roader upon.
The “pro” package is only available in the USA so far.
A pity.
(Any Red Rose tea fans pick up on that?)
Baja Valley…sigh…
