Mercedes loyalists, your X6 fighter has arrived [Live photos now available – CA].
The 2016 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe 4Matic derives its power from a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 with stop-start tech. The mill pumps out 577 horsepower and 561 lb-ft to all four corners, 10 horses and 8 lb-ft of torque more than the BMW X6 M. Nought to 62 comes in just 4.2 seconds, and the output is split 40:60 rear via the crossover’s AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic.
Maintaining the connection between driver and road is the GLE63’s Dynamic Select system, which controls and modifies air suspension, active roll stabilization, and variable damping depending on driver preference and driving conditions. Other driver aids include active braking, tire pressure monitoring, collision prevention, and crosswind assist.
For more personalization, owners can choose from an array of options, including: carbon fiber engine cover, fragrance mister, 22-inch matt black alloys, performance exhaust, and a high-end surround sound system by Bang & Olufsen.

Ew.
The top picture looks like an Echo/Kia with a body package, I do like the dash, which probably means it’s dated as heck.
Also if the engine is impressive it shouldn’t need any engine cover.
Too much car.
Divide everything by two, and it becomes more interesting.
There are multiple variants underneath this model and pretty sure there is a more pedestrian version. This is just the top of the line.
Stuttgart Aztec.
Well put.
Two more words: Gawd fugly.
What will this be $75-80K? I think BMW did a much better job at building a “Why not, people will buy anything we throw at them” car with the X6
A BMW X6M/X5M starts at around $105k up to about $120k loaded. I would bet money that this AMG Mercedes variant is conveniently within a few thousand.
Mercedes Loyalists??? Smart people lease them for a short time…Only fools buy German cars. Where is the Loyalty? Mercedes Loyalty ended 15 years ago.
when the X6 came out, I was the first to say “kill it before it multiplies!” No one listened. Now it’s ilk has infested almost every brand. I believe this is one of the signs of the coming Apocalypse.
Yup.
Design it for China. Structurally, build it for the US and EU safety and environmental standards. Then sell it everywhere.
They did, why do you think the back is all Buick!
Fourteen syllables in a car name are twelve too many.
Geez, it’s a moniker, not a speech!

I see lots of not so positive comments above. I like though, although I think I would lean to the X6M/X5M before this. But really, if I’m looking at this kind of power, I would (and did) buy something with a far lower profile, lower roofline, and less weight. BMW X6’s seem to be very popular where I live. The X6M gets great driving reviews, I’ll be curious to see a comparison.
Snark alert:
Thanks goodness there is now some choice in the crazy big, crazy heavy, crazy tall “coupe” class!
Mileage should be pretty great, though, since it has start/stop.
Seriously, in this class X5M all the way. Why diminish the utility aspect?
