Kia-Sportspace-Concept

Having appeared in its native South Korea already, the Kia Sportspace Concept makes its official debut at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show.

The Optima-based Sportspace uses a 2-liter direct-injection four-cylinder gasoline mill to send 250 horsepower to the front. Meanwhile, the interior boasts a pair of large screens that would be at home in the Mercedes S-Class.

The concept may also hint at what the next-gen Optima will look like, but no estate is likely for the U.S. market.

Now that’s a better looking front end.

The wagon looks quite good as well.

Kia vehicles are looking better and better as time goes by.

The engine looks good as well.

It does look good, I would agree. But the final execution of Kia vehicles often turns out not quite as the concept was.

I’m getting a lot of Fisker from the front as well, not a bad thing.

        @CoreyDL,
Yep, Kia will now find an “old” platform around the correct size and attempt to mate this to it.

Actually, Kia production models tend to be pretty close to the production-ready concepts a la the previous Optima, Sorento, Soul, etc.

Kia Australia has pretty much confirmed that they will be getting it based on the huge reaction.

We’ll see if that actually translates to sales (even if the Aussie market is a little more friendly to estates/wagons, but it is increasingly turning to crossovers).

The front end has a Dodge Charger look. Very nice, the designers and engineers at KIA are destroying the Japanese lately.

I’m a big fan of the direction that Kia has been going lately. I already put my money where my mouth is getting my wife something Korean, and with Kia’s new styling direction it’s definitely possible we might end up with one of those in the driveway to when I need to replace my DD. heck, I’m alreay a big fan of high-trim Optimas.

Best concept since the Santa Cruz

Yeah, I say a big fat no. There is no way this car will sell in any number. It’s the Kia version of a Dodge Magnum.

Disagree! I think it would sell huge in North America, as is, but of course with real-world reasonable ground-clearance.

It sure is good looking. I just hope they enlarge the windows before production. I can’t imagine it’s very easy to see out of that thing.

About time they made the Optima into a wagon. I’d buy it.

If they offered it in a manual I would absolutely cross shop it on my next family wagon purchase. There are only two non luxury wagons right now. This would be on the large side, closer to the Outback, but would offer technology and interior to rival the Sportwagen. I’m pretty sure being on the large side would help more than hurt in this segment.

I could actually see one of the Korean brands doing this. I know there’s a huge number of people waiting to “poo poo” wagons, but Subaru is killing it with their wagon and VW will probably end up increasing their volume with the new SW.

I reeeeally want to LOVE this. Looks like a Mazda 6 wagon mixed with the new Volvo XC90. But the Optima I rented last year was so bla…worst car I’ve driven in a long time.
