Climbing down the Swiss Alps, the Mercedes G500 4X42 bowed at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show.
The G500 4X42 rides upon 17.7 inches of ground clearance, double what one can have on the standard G Wagen, and moves over the rocky trails with help from its 4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 422 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque.
Were it to go into production the G500 would have 22-inch alloys or 18-inch wheels mounted on 37-inch beadlock tires, providing 52- and 54-degree approach/departure angles, respectively; breakover is 47 degrees.

Shame they couldn’t ready for Jurassic World publicity. Like rest of the range.
Ironically they chose the GLE Coupe of all things. I guess if any car needs fictional off-road capability the GLE Coupe would benefit more in the real world (these 4Matic’s won’t sell themselves) than the already respected Gelandewagen.
What, they put the GLE in the new Jurassic Park?!?!
And I thought it was incredulous having the ML-Class in The Lost World as an off-road adventure vehicle.

OMG, I thought you guys were joking
It looks like a re-badged Suzuki Samurai from front.
Agreed! It’s the new and improved Samurai Stormtrooper Edition.
These aren’t the Mercedes you’re looking for.
It looks very stupid and pointless, with no spare tire at the back, and the tube rear bumper, and the carbon fiber wheel arches on something which weighs 3 tons anyway.
What an obnoxious thing for the UAE. It will undoubtedly be $100,000 more expensive than the regular G, at least.
I suspect the tube bumper is a regulatory bandaid that’s easily removed for off-roading. Totally agree on the wheel arches, those should be rubber.
I’m personally a big fan of this thing, if only because it comes with portal axles right out of the factory.
Lipstick on a pig. A dinosaur from a bygone era.
4×4² = 4×16. Gotcha.
You do NOT want alloy wheels on a true off-road vehicle. You do NOT
want that much ground clearance on an ORV – they can tip/roll too easily.
A twin-turbo V8? Way too much power and fussiness for a true ORV.
But of course, none of these will ever be used off road.
Take a military utility vehicle and bling it out and sell it for 5 times the build cost………. there appears to be no direct correlation between brains and wealth.
Did the portal axles come off a Unimog?
I’d be a bit afraid of portals on something this narrow and tall. The regular g-wagon is already a very small – very tall vehicle. I also can’t imagine this will ride as good as the solid axle unless they really skimped(in the sense of durability) on the suspension.
37 inch tires on 22 inch rims, f that.
iirc my current set 37″ tires for my deuce was over $1,400 after buying warranty, those are on 17″ rims, and I feel the cost I just posted is low. The H1 on the other hand uses 16.5 inch rims, so I can buy a set of those 37″ tires all day long for $600 on eBay.
So 37″ tires on 22″ rims is what? $550-600 per tire?
But then you have to remember the bead locks were probably an idea to help Mercedes make more money, not just anyone is willing to touch them.
You probably won’t see these at your local mall.
Can I have a 6×6 instead?
Yes.

No I can’t, Mercedes sold all the roughly 100 that they made and don’t plan on making any more. :(

The G500 4×4-Squared concept is basically the G63 6×6’s suspension and overall look on a standard G Wagen, but…it’s just not the same.
I’d settle for one of the military ones with the diesel, though.
Finally! A daily driver/carpool commuter! It was looking like all Geneva has is valet parking attendant wet dreams, ill-suited to the dd/cc purpose.
