Anyone willing to take bets we’ll see something like this on our shores? I’m thinking we’ll see the same powertrain but in a sedan or coupe. A Civic hatchback seems like a longshot, but with the Focus, Mazda3 and Golf offering them, perhaps there’s an opportunity for a revival?

Does this share the rear suspension with the Fit (like the last European Civic) or with the North American sedan/coupe?
I would be pleasantly amazed if Honda found some nerve a brought the hatchback over.
What I’m curious about is whether or not this powertrain makes it into the Acura equivalent.
Aaaand….I clicked.
I think the hatch would be a pretty good seller, just because of it’s more unique looks. In Canada, at any rate.
It would be interesting to see what the next generation Civic winds up as. I think a good case can be made for reuniting the Euro and North American Civics into one car again.
Like – except for that goofy and I would speculate rather non-functional rear spoiler.
I think this is a relevant question: Is it cheaper to make this body style US-legal, or to shove that powertrain into the North American Civic?
I’m guessing the latter, since it’s almost certain that the European Civic hatch is smaller than the US cars. I can’t deny that this Type R is a good-looking thing, even if it’s a little too extroverted for me.
My bet is on a US version of the engine in a US version of the Civic… That would mean a sedan and coupe, with safer styling, less power, more comfortable suspension, smaller brakes and at least 2/3 the price of the euro version, probably for the 10th gen Si introduced as a 2017 or 2018 model year car sometime in 2016 or 2017.
Some more of those Mothra meets Rodan styling cues!
I was thinking more Neon Genesis Evangelion.
