Want to know what the 2016 Honda Civic will look like? The Honda Civic Concept is a sign of what’s to come.
The 2016 Civic lineup will include sedan, coupe and five-door hatchback styles, with Si and Type R trims coming to the party. Power will include a VTEC 1.5-liter direct-injection turbo-four paired with either a six-speed manual or CVT.
Other upcoming features include Honda’s Honda Sensing safety suite, as well as improvements in NVH levels and fuel economy.
The sedan will be first to hit showrooms this fall, with the coupe and hatchback to follow. The hatch will be the only Civic not made in North America, being shipped from Honda’s factory in Swindon, England.

Jeez, that wheel-of-feet motif is getting around… ILX, Scion iM, and now this.
I like most of the rest of it, except that. It’s nicely proportioned, and doesn’t have that “very FWD” look of the current one. And I’m glad to see the return of full-width tail lamps. On things from the Nav, Durango, Continental, this, etc.
Now, see, that’s where I’m disappointed. I was hoping for more taillights. Maybe a rear window-sized LED bank in place of the rear window.

I see it too… as if Acura were channeling Fred Flintstone. But the rest of the car is very attractive. And unlike Acura, Honda is still showing a racy tail pipe.
Yabba Dabba Doo!
Honda has it on the 2014 and 2015 Si.
I have an old Tyco RC car in that color…
Severe sinus infection green?
It was a bit more yellow, but yeah!
Ah,the 90s.
Let’s wait to see the production run and sedan first before I pass judgement…
I’d like to see what the sedan version looks like, without the Boy Racer livery.
Not too bad.
If this is a sign of what will come, I would say: about bloody time.
Honda really needed some excitement in this segment and this new Civic looks like it might actually deliver exactly that.
This is actually pretty cool (minus the wing and hideous color). I love the body style, looks great from the side. Front and back are a bit too busy, but sure production version will be toned down.
It looks like a mini version of the Accord Coupe. That is not a complaint.
I think the stylists were aiming for the Accord Coupe, but ended up somewhere closer to Hyundai’s Veloster, which IMO is a rather ugly car. I thought just about anything would be an improvement over the current Civic Coupe. Just not sure whether this actually qualifies.
I agree. It looks like the Accord coupe from the side. I wonder how similar they will be in specs, or if the Accord will change platforms?
It’s very nice. But I would prefer less busy front and side, and without the wing. (Only Chris Bangle, and a few others from the classic car era can get away with making a car busy.)
I have to say I’m prejudiced against turbo, although I like it on my brother’s Jetta TDI wagon.
David (’08 Civic, stick)
Not many think Bangle got away with it.
Yeah and it will have a torsion beam in the rear and Mac struts in the front. Watch Honda dissapoint. Suspension is first and foremost. I don’t want a lower control arm coupled to a rotating tampon dispenser. Evaluate this against the EK9. It succeeds only if its on par. Anything better is icing on the cake.
Also if it weighs 3000 lbs then Honda has hit ‘The Wall’, much like Tara Reid…
+1
Up until now Honda has a remarkable job of resisting weight gain, my 2012 weighs 2650 lb, a featherweight by modern compact car standards, heck it’s lighter than some subcompacts. I really wouldn’t mind a rear torsion beam if it meant more passenger or cargo space, with the way I drive it’d be a non issue, my 2012 with a independent rear bucks and wobbles over sidewise expansion joints as it is! Torsion beam rear ends are also wonderfully durable and trouble free, fewer bushings and balljoints to worry about as things age. Same applies for a MacStrut front end, a sturdy and simple layout that just plain works. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my 1990 Civic Wagon, that was the most ‘alive’ little car I’ve driven, I could feel exactly what the tires were doing and how soon they’d let go in a corner.
All your Lime-Away are belong to us.
The front looks like a venomous and very angry insect.
I hope this is going to be a hatchback, because the trunk is practically nonexistent. But I do like the styling.
Heaven forfend!? The Hyundai Veloster is strong in this one.
I was thinking Accord Coupe.
Yes.
Veloster is definitely the first thing that came to mind when I saw the pics.
Oh sure, NOW they add that color.
You wouldn’t be able to get it on an Accord anyway, unless you bought an automatic. Manuals don’t get real colors. :P
Shame. It would have been a nice follow-up to your departed lime-green S5…
Hate to say it but at this point, I’ll drool over anything that isn’t a bloated, me-too, focus group inspired CUV. I’m not confident the production version will look this cool but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.
It looks production-ready. Usually, when concepts are this detailed, it’s because the design has been finalized and the company is merely previewing it for the public. The only things it’ll probably lose are those mirrors—of course—and the center-mounted exhaust outlet. They might even keep this bright lime color…
That center exhaust as an SI exclusive would be pretty badass though.
Yeah. Then again, Hyundai managed to do a central exhaust in all versions of the Veloster, so it’s not like it’s totally cost-prohibitive for an inexpensive car to have one.
Si and Type-R you say?
Sweeeeeeet
I hope Honda retires the two-tier dash.
me too!
I hope Honda retires the Civic’s two-tier dash.
You can say that again!
Sweet Fancy Moses, that is ten pounds of ugly stuffed into a five pound sack. Somebody kill that thing with extreme prejudice, please!
I’m no Honda Hater either, I think the 2004-ish (sorry, I don’t know what “gen” that is) Civic Si hatchback is one of the best looking sport compacts every made personally. This horribly disproportioned monstrosity is a far cry from that vehicle I must say…
Just wait 5 years, this one’ll grow on you and you’ll have a new one to hate more.
Hyundai Veloster? I googled the images…nahhhh. Those that think this Civic looks like a Veloster should visit the optometrist pronto.
This is a home run. I thought it was some elaborate April Fool’s joke by Honda, initially, because this is what the Honda enthusiast crowd has been wanting for a while now…especially a Type R! Once the Type R comes and blows the Ford RS, STi, Evo, et al into the weeds, they’ll have to come up with new excuses. Honda started the enthusiast import game and they’re back with a vengeance.
Does Honda still design cars in Japan? Looks like an American rice burner to me.
From LeftLane: “The new Civic represents the first time global development of both the coupe and sedan variants has been led by Honda’s North American research-and-development team. Designers at the company’s Los Angeles studio spearheaded the new style, while engineers in Raymond, Ohio, handled development.”
Man, I just don’t get what they’re going for with this design. I double checked the images and I can’t seem to find a single surface which doesn’t look way too busy and overstyled. Maybe tacky is the best way to describe it.
Looks like a neon green mole cricket. Sure Civic are reliable. But, they are damn ugly.
That’s the best looking Hyundai yet.
As a long time Kawasaki guy, I also applaud their choice of color.
Looks like a radioactive Veloster.
Very promising. Looks like Honda might be back on their game after a rather disappointing 9th gen.
