It has happened: The United States will finally get its Honda Civic Type R.
AutoGuide reports the announcement was made during the unveiling of the 2015 Honda Civic Coupe Concept, though the date of arrival is still not yet known. Our Type-R will likely be built on an all-new platform, whereas the recently unveiled Type-R is a swan song for the current car, which has more in common with our Fit than the next Civic.
The Type R gets its power from a VTEC 2-liter turbo-four making 305 horsepower, and can leave the line from nil to 62 in 5.7 seconds.

That is one ugly car!
If they can get all the power to the ground somehow, wow…but that car does have a face for radio.
Every round of these hot compacts I think “now they’ve gone beyond what FWD can handle” but it seems each time some maker is able to prove it can be done. If anyone can do this Honda can…though I have serious doubts it could possibly be a better performance car than the forthcoming Focus RS
About 15 years late to the game.
Let the dealer gouging begin…
My guess – this version will comprise maybe 1-2% of Civic sales, so perhaps 3000-6000 units a year in the US. Even the Ridgeline and Crosstour sell better.
Ironically, the kids who pimp today’s Civics to look like this won’t be able to afford this factory version.
But, they will be able to afford to buy the replica styling, and some people are going to enjoy being given that money a lot.
Since this will be imported it won’t be the bargain that many hope for. My guess is that this is for the Honda faithful only and it will have a hard time competing with the Focus ST and RS as well as the Golf GTI and R.
Then again, never underestimate the appeal of LED headlights, a massive wing, a loud exhaust and easy finance terms.
Wow. They really can’t NOT make an ugly car.
I love the idea of it, if only they could make an adult trim that ditches a lot of the visual flare.
I love the look of it, but I live in Europe, constantly being surrounded by BMW’s X-series, and modern Mercedes’s takes the sting out of anything after a while. I now not many people agree with me, but I’m OK with being the only sane person from time to time :)
I’m ok with the looks too. I like the front and rear… the side view has too many busy creases.
If you’ll excuse me, I have to find a company that makes fart-can exhaust systems to buy stock in.
7:50 ‘ring time. Keep hatin’ haters.
Yep. Them haters are gonna hate.
“Haters gunna hate” when said haters have taste, and happen to take a look at.. This.
And I thought that green Civic Coupe concept looks bad until I scroll down to this.
Kudos to Honda for bringing this. The bad news: I think the theft rates will be astronomical.
At least the cops will spot it easily.
Can’t convince my self to drop 30 large on a WRX or a GTI, but this…..
The functionality of the hatch itself overtakes my FX lol.
